OK, so this may be worth coining a new acronym PUAR (p!ss!ng up a rope), however I'll blaze away regardless.

What are the chances of two people travelling together getting an upgrade on points?

My fiancee and I plan to get married in Europe next year, and it would be nice to travel at least one segment in Business. Last year I used points for an upgrade from Discount Econ to Business on SYD-HKG with QF no probs. I will probably have enough points for us both to be upgraded on at least one segment, so curious as to what the chances are. I'm assuming I'd have to transfer the required points over to my fiancee's FFN.

It'd be kind of pointless for one of us to be upgraded and the other to sit at the back of the bus (because it would be me).

Other info? I'm NB right now but will be PS by next year and a QP member to boot.

Any suggestions, abuse or otherwise greatly appreciated. I'm guessing also that the chances depend on availability of seats - I've cross-posted here on how one would go about checking availability.

Cheers,

D

It has happened to me and my wife before when I was QF WP. What level of membership are you?

It also wouldn't hurt your chances having a note in your PNR that you are on the way to your wedding. No guarantees of course.

When I went on honeymoon, unknown to me my mother rang up Qantas and told them, and we got upgraded to J to Bangkok. So it is worth a try.

A lot of non-married (or recently married) couples try the "stunt" of claiming to be "just married, honeymoon" to attempt to blag an upgrade.

I'm not sure it really carries much leeway. Most checkin agents have seen an army of actors with broken bones, are just married, bereaved or <insert your own shameless attempt to obtain an upgrade here>.

(BTW, I'm not saying that everyone who claims to be one of the categories above is lying).

I think if you put your points upgrade request in and have linked itineraries (ie on the same PNR or Qantas has joined them), then either both or none of the parties will be upgraded.

yeah, I guess it's like going to a restaurant and telling them it's your 21st / 30th / 40th ... in the hope of free drinks. Nice try..

I can always get Mum to give them a call!

Robert, I'm Bronze at the mo but will be Silver by the time we head o/s.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Dear Doug

Higher the status the better the chance, although there are quite a few in front of you. Good luck and I hope it works out:!:

Yep, my claims for 21st birthday status have been consistently unsuccessful for many years . Not sure why it doesn't work for me?

Thanks all!

Maybe we'll just front up in the wedding gear, "on the off chance" ...

That would be great! An oboard wedding with the complementary QF Champers. BTW, Doug I like the PUAR. Will use it at work today if that's OK

Go for it Rob, I'm an acronym collector!

My favourite from years ago was quoted by a project manager at Boeing: "RFNWAFD", translated loosely as "please expedite my request."

In the way distant past, flying on good old AN we were upgraded from Cairns-Brisbane-Sydney after telling the check in agent in the Golden Wing lounge we had just got engaged the day before (we had), put some code on our BP's and we were served champagne after take off and the merry CSM made an announcement on the PA "congratulations to the newly engaged couple in 2a and 2b" with lots of applause, always worth a try.

So am I. FUBAR is one of my favourites. It means " there is no way that this is going to function properly". Keep us informed about the progress with the upgrades

I had to register (I've only lurked until now) just so I could reply to this one ;)

My wife and I were married late last year in the airport; it was literally a case of "we now pronounce you man and wife, now get on the plane!". (if you want to know why, that's another story) You can't get more 'just married' than that but it made no difference. No upgrades for us :(

So while it's certainly worth a try - we did get extras out of a number of hotels by telling them it was our honeymoon - don't expect any flight rewards.

This was with SIA so naturally YMMV.

I got married last month in Europe. We flew over on Singapore Air.

The travel agent said she would request a 'honeymoon cake' whatever that is...

I called Singapore Airlines to give them a heads up that we needed to carry the wedding dress on board. They said it should be ok.

We brought the wedding dress and my suit on board. They kindly stored them for us up in business class and then showed us to our seats in the second last row at the back of the plane.

Other than storing our wedding outfits, we received no special service on the way to Europe or on the way back.

Oh well - I guess I expected that to be the case although I did secretly hope that they would do something, anything special...
