Hello All,

I really need some help (and not just on here!) from the more experienced members of the Forum.

In November I booked and paid for two trips to Europe in April and June next year with Qantas. I'm currently gold with 175 SC's, so I thought I would able to retain gold by the time they expire at the end of August.

After I've booked these flights there is various promotions about using Classic rewards and getting discount economy SC's and also of course, double SC's for anything booked in December. I'm presuming that the flights already booked won't qualify for double SC's, if they did I would retain gold easily.

So would it be worth cancelling the previously booked trips wearing the cancellation cost, or should I just grin and bear it, as my wife says I should. Again, I'm presuming that it would cost me $150 as a reissue and not also $400 as a cancellation fee.

I did contemplate trying to get to Platinum as I believe you only drop back one level if in the following year you don't get enough SC'c which is entirely possible

I've read a lot of the posts about status runs, but when I try to find similar flights I don't seem to be able to manage it, all I end up with is a headache.

Like most others I really liked the old website with the easy ability to make Q&JASA bookings!

As an aside I have about 450,000 points and can get access to another 200,000 from my better half if necessary. Given the current environment should I be burning them!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You would need to totally cancel them and then rebook getting a new PNR in the process. The risk you take is that the fare type may not be available and you might end up paying a lot more for the ticket assuming it was even still available.

I would use some points and try for plat with a status run so that you enjoy the F lounges etc as pert of your trips and get at least two years of lounge access etc. 70000 points can be translated into a 560 SC opportunity that earns close to 15000 points back as well. not sure where you are located but well under 200000 points would get you across the line if positioning flights using points are used as well.

Your two trips would also then earn more points which should be factored into the equation when it comes to ROI.

Thanks for your replies, as Hvr says if I cancelled them to get a new PNR, it may cause more problems.

markis10, I've updated my location (CBR), never noticed that I hadn't previously put it in. Even though I do visit here a lot, I don't tend to post as I don't usually have anything useful to add!!

CBR is a good starting location for mJASA's, so you're in luck.

The issue with cancelling your flights for later next year is how they get refunded. If into a voucher to be put to use with another flight, it wouldn't qualify for DSC, however if back to your credit card then you'd be fine to make an entirely new booking. Of course, I don't think this DSC promotion covers past January, so the only thing you could change about those flights to Europe is to book them as classics, but only economy qualifies for double, and wouldn't earn points, so that's not particularly enticing I don't think.

Certainly, making a run for Platinum now and then enjoying those trips to Europe even more (as a Platinum) would be nice. You'd also get at least one more loyalty bonus of 8000 points and 25% extra points when travelling to Europe as a Platinum over a Gold. You could almost cover your points cost getting to Platinum ;)

Note that the double SC's offer for flights in Dec/Jan is for domestic flights only.

+1

You can go rebook your Europe trips, but you wont get DSC.

Thankyou samh004, Opusman and Tom, that settles it, I obviously didn't read it properly and just presumed it applied to all flights. I feel a bit of a dork right now!

Hey, better than going to the trouble of rebooking without asking first ;) that's what we're here for.

No worries. As samh004 said, that's what we're here for.
