It is much cheaper to book your flight on KLM from Germany to any destination in the world than get a direct flight by KLM from Amsterdam.
For example roundtrip AMS-MNL is €990
DUS-MNL (through AMS) is €680 only. A difference of more than €300!
So you got an extra flight for free, extra miles and you pay much less!
The airline rules are crazy!

KLm is pretty dear EX AMS... most fares in Europe will start from 200 euro return when not on sale and you will earn a meagre 25% of miles (usually the min 187 miles)

KLM has the most likelihood of a non-stop service ex AMS and so KLM can reasonably justify charging higher fares; no different to BA being often higher cost ex London

This situation is very common, especially in Europe. If looking for the cheapest option, look beyond the home carrier of the origin/destination ports involved, or be prepared to position to an alternate starting point.

I still think this situation is totally crazy. What if you buy a TV for example. People from Sydney can buy the TV 40% cheaper in Melbourne and you will get a free DVD player as well and the same for people from Melbourne but they have to go to Sydney. While the TV is the same everywhere. You are just buying a product. Whether it is a TV or a flight from A to B. Everyone knows that for the airline 2 flights are more expensive than 1 flight. They have to fly extra planes, use more kerosine and more manpower for this. If they would attrack people and they gave the extra flight to Amsterdam for free. I could understand that. But to give you a discount of 30% on top of that, is totally crazy. Why don't they lower the fares with 15% for example from Amsterdam and increase the fares with 15% from Germany. So there will be one price and it will not encourage many Dutch people to travel 2 hours from Amsterdam to Dusseldorf and while they fly back to Amsterdam immediately.

The airline has the strength of the home base and that they have a lot of non stop options; going from Germany they have to make their prices lower to try and tease people away from LH

If they could get away with charging more in DE , I bet that they would
