Domestic Overbooking in Australia

Tiger overbook because the chances of 180 pax showing up checked in ontime is around 10000:1.

Id say that there would have been a couple of Tiger's employees on that 10.45am flight in order for those pax to get on. All Tiger employees remain on Standby until the 45min deadline, well most fly for free these days anyway.

End of the day, under 1.5hr delay and combined they got a $600 Travel voucher, not bad!

I believe Qantas does overbook. With the domestic frequencies on most major routes, it's easy to get away with it.
Overbooking can work quite well if there are multiple flights scheduled that day by the airline.

I would not want miss out on a flight due to overbooking on a flight on a route that is only scheduled to operate on a Tue, Thu and Sun or even worse once a week....

Yes when you're on the 7 am is overbooked and they move you to the 7:15am. And then the 7am doesn't leave until 7:20 because it's running late, well, you get there five minutes earlier anyway.... all small change really on many domestic routes, at least on QF & DJ

Since we are starting to get into QF \ DJ territory, my understanding of QF's overbooking policy is that it's only done for flight to \ from the US.

That said, given most of the people on this forum are status pax, I somewhat doubt we'd be the ones denied boarding.

QF overbooks on other routes, just that on routes to/from the US, they have to follow the US rules on dealing with an overbooking situation, same as for flights ex LHR/FRA , they are bound by the European regulations

Wonder if we will ever see the breakdown in revenues collected by Tiger in terms of advance revenue and at the airport revenue?

I doubt it, that said it's the airport revenue which keeps most LCC's in the air, so dare say it (along with on board sales) forms a large percentage of their revenue.
