Domestic flights an 'easy target' for terrorists

Whilst the idea has some merit in theory, it is a bad idea because if the security relies on identifying "known" suspects, then it shows that the security is not very good at all.

No, it shouldn't be the only thing for security. Knowing who is getting on board should be one of the many tools which airport security should use.
