Given all the lounge access issues being reported lately. I thought better to clarify my position.

I am flying QF Award CBR-SYD-AMS (QF / EK) in first.
CBR-SYD is in economy, will I have access to J lounge in CBR, based on my onward EK F flight?

Unless I am missing something, it looks like they have removed 'domestic Y connecting to international J/F' lounge access on the new page: Qantas Lounge Access Eligibility | Qantas

It now says: 'Lounge access eligibility is based on the class of travel or the Frequent Flyer Membership tier for your next onward flight.'

@somebol to be honest I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. CBR J lounge is not so great, often I actually prefer the normal lounge. It has a much much nicer view, more light, much bigger, often is less crowded or quieter. I don’t miss any food or wine differences between the two. Same in Sydney. J lounge gets more crowded, ppl often seem more arrogant/louder in there. And its like drinking beer in a box. Y lounge is brighter and bigger although in Sydney especially it seems to always be busy these days.

Not too concerned about CBR lounge as long as they let me in to F lounge ;)

Was just curious as to if I would be allowed lounge access in CBR

Found this buried in the Qantas website: oneworld alliance | Qantas AU

Quote:

Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
  • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul^ and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
  • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul^ ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
  • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

@BD1959 I do not think that will be applicable EK is not part of OW. As the OP is travelling on awards I would assume that CBR-SYD on a QF coded flight and SYD-AMS is on a EK code ticket, i.e. not code share. Depending on status and current QF/EK lounge access rules this may be the determining factor however I think EK F gets access to the QF F lounge.

Couple of years ago I took a friend to the airport in Canberra. She was flying CBR-MEL in Y, then on EK F to DXB on a single award ticket. Was told at check-in no access to lounge.

In our case we got in, but courtesy of me knowing the lovely lady at the J lounge desk, me being P1, and it being pretty much closing time that night.

Agree. My instinct is no access in CBR, but no problem in the F lounge in SYD.

Apologies all - missed that this was QF -> EK ... !!

So an update. My flight was yesterday, I was allowed into the J lounge after a cursory look at my ek f bp issued on at stock. It was a really brief look, don’t think the dragon realised it was EK F. So I might have got lucky.
BTW she also allowed my family (non flying) into the lounge.
