Last night I went to book the last hotel for this year's trip, which was for four nights in Doha in November. I had booked a hotel there last year, but we had to cancel that trip.
I was astounded at the price drops all across Doha. Places like Doubetree Hilton and Radisson Blu which were around $1200 last year, were down to around $700 to $800 this year. The $600 places seem to have dropped to $400 or lower. In the end, I picked a well furnished 85 square meter room with sea view and breakfast for around $550.
I can only surmise that the sanctions other Arab states have placed on Qatar, seem to be having the desired effect.
As an aside, when I went to look at flights the other day, on the Qantas site Melbourne to Stockholm came up with fares of around $1700 each (via combinations of Qantas, Emirates and BA). So I didn't even bother looking up the Venice to Melbourne return leg of the trip
But on the Qatar site, Melbourne to Stockholm and then Venice to Melbourne resulted in a price of $1499 each for the entire trip - $200 cheaper that the first leg of the flight alone via Qantas. I guess Qantas/Emirates don't want the business.
Regards,
Renato
