I haven't heard QF do it but I was told that one of the airlines that go to Toyko you get a transit hotel room for a night.

I think it was EVA air.

I have also heard a few other airlines do it but as already in this thread they are extended stays.

It's generally when you are travelling wholly with the one carrier whereby you may have a forced overnight stop due to flights not connecting.

JL used to do it (still might not sure) at NRT if you took the day flight SYD/NRT arriving at night then a morning flight next day NRT/LHR arriving late pm into LHR. MH used to do it also for KUL overnights & IIRC SQ did but it may have only been for F&J pax only.

An STPC - stopover at carriers expense was generally issued for long haul travel eg ex Aust to a destination like Europe, USA or Africa & was an incentive for pax to consider travelling with that airline as they may have decided against the airline if they had to shell cash for the hotel. It was generally hotel accommodation for the night plus breakfast & return airport transfers.

I vaguely recall someone mentioning to me that their hotel was paid by Korean Air for an overnight transit in ICN on the routing SYD-ICN-LHR in economy.

Where I have seen it done in the last few years, it has tended to involve a stay at the airlines home city.

JL and ANA did it for NRT transits enroute to USA.

Presume they still do....... It's the one route where I break the rule and fly direct now ;)

JAL stumped up for me in NRT on route to FRA.

To answer the original question. No. However, there are enough same day flights to Taiwan, why would you want to overnight in another city anyway? QF 329 (Codeshare with Eva Air) goes Thursdays and Saturdays ex BNE direct to Taipei on Thursday and Saturday nights, and there are plenty of daytime connections with a variety of carriers.

Maybe me?
Got a free hotel stay (4 star), for a 8 or 10 hour transit back in 2004. SYD-ICN-LHR, Y, Korean Air.

+1 for Korean, although when my sister was travelling in Y she didnt realise that they would put her up so organised her own hotel. Why Korean found out they gave her vouchers for F+B as we as free internet and lounge access.

She was very happy.

And the same via KIX, too - I did the trip in 1996 and we arrived around 9pm, and stayed in the airport hotel on the same island as the airport - great fun! The next morning, checking in for our 11am flight, the agent seemed VERY flustered, spent a long time on the phone speaking rapid Japanese to someone on the other end, and eventually was very apologetic: seems our bags had been loaded on the SYD-xNRT-LHR service, not our SYD-xKIX-LHR one that left an hour later. She promised us that they would waiting for us at Heathrow, as the morning connection from NRT for LHR also left a little ahead of the KIX one, and indeed they were. No harm, no foul = +1 for JAL.

This is a JASA. there are silly J tickets SYD-HKG for $600 +120k points return. (or 96k points each way)

If i JASA J with the BR codeshare flight, it's 120k points + $2.7k

So it's cheaper to JASA to HK and buy a J ticket to taiwan. (not that i'd bother buying a J from HKG to taiwan.)
