does everyone need to have the same fare type?

when booking rewards flights, I'm assuming we all have to have the same fare type?
I'm only asking because the lite fare is a lot less points and my kids don't have luggage and automatically get assigned seating next to me - seems silly to use so many extra points on a classic fare

Everyone on the same booking has to have the same fare type.
