Does AA offer credit cards all over world?

Agree. Though I have to say right now in Australia they offer 80k MR Points for the Plat Charge Card and 50k for the Velocity flyer card.

When I had my cc's in the US the best offer 4 years ago was 35,000 AA Miles (of course that now went up to 80k as well).

At this point I rarely apply for offers less than 50K.(not to say that I won't, it all depends on the program)

I've got the mbna Aadvantage AMEX/Visa over here. It's not a bad earner considering the dearth of other good mileage earning cards in the UK (I'm not a BAEC member so don't count those). My card earns 1.5 miles/£ on the Amex and 0.75 miles/£ on the Visa. Both have access to the card limit. I've managed to put ~200k miles on in the last 4 years so it's not too hard to accumulate a total that will get me back to MEL in comfort.

As for sign-up bonuses, the UK has very little to give anyone any real excitement. I think my one was 5k with a further 2.5k on 1st spend and 2.5k for going over £1k in spend in the first three months (or something similar). Nothing like the enormous ones being handed out in the US (or even in Oz now).

That's the card I'm trying to get once I have some sort of credit history....

Not sure how long you've been here, but the easiest way to get that going is to get on to the Electoral Roll at your registered address (non-UK citizens are eligible). That counts for a lot ime. And any kind of bank account should help, especially one with a small overdraft.

Coming up to 1.5 years now, already on the Electoral Roll (as far as I know), and have 2 bank accounts (1 personal, 1 business) as well as a Plat Amex Charge Card (was able to get that via Global Transfer). Applying online always rejects as you can't provide 3 years worth of past address history... wonder if ringing may be better?

That is too bad that offers are not available to you... They have actually been getting better here in the US!
I was actually working on a post for my blog that I am finishing up. In it I've listed all of the cards that I know I applied for in 2011 and the mileage bonus earned for each. The numbers are pretty crazy. I can;t see topping the amount earned in 2012 but I plan to give it a try!

I would've thought that 1.5 years should give you some decent credit history, especially if you have some cards already. A phone contract also helps. FWIW, I got my original AA Citibank Amex (when they still did them) about 6 months after arriving. That was before the crisis when things were looser though.

Also, my latest limit increase took a call and a quick letter to the mbna underwriting dept for it to be approved. I think the online decision tool refers a lot of non-vanilla (i.e. UK citizen, steady employment, steady perm address) type applications.

Good luck anyway, it's a good facility to have over here.
