Hello all,
i was just wondering, in the United States-American Airlines has credit card products through Citibank that offer varying amounts of mileage signup bonuses. I was wondering if there are offers like this in other markets around the world?

There's nothing in Australia. In the UK though MBNA have a credit card that will occasionally have decent sign-up bonuses.

Thanks for the feedback!
I was wondering if offers available to us in the United States were also being given out around the world. (obviously it would be diff banks and all)

I guess we are very lucky to have so many opportunities. I know some offers are available in Canada...

We see many of the offers but there is frequently a clause for US residents only. e.g. Tho offers on the Hilton web site are there but unavailable to us foreign aliens. :(

Sounds almost like the fruit is being dangled out there for you but you just can't reach out to take advantage of it! That's too bad.

Have a look at this section of the forum.

Current Credit Card Promotions

The Virgin offer is pretty solid! I also saw a Citibank offer of 60K but it didn;t seem to be affiliated with any airline/ hotel.

The past year/ year and a half the CC companies have been extremely generous.
At the moment I am trying not to apply for any new cards in hopes of a really big offer in the near future! There was one offer I could not pass up a couple of months ago- Amex offered a one day only 75K signup bonus on the Business Gold card for spending $10K in 5 months...

The negative side of this offer is the grief that they put you through to actually get the card. If your situation is even a little out of the normal (as in my case) the clueless individuals on the phone cannot understand.

When I apply for cards it is all done online. The only time I need to call is for Chase at times... Chase will decline new cards if you recently received a new one. However, by calling in you can usually shuffle around credit lines and get it approved pretty painlessly.

Sounds like Chase are well ahead of the Citibank call centre in the Phillipines

All you need is: A US Social Security Number tied to a credit History, a U.S. residential address. That's it.

That's the clincher! You need the US credit history. Which as different to Australia (where you start with a clean record unless you stuff it up), in the US you start with a 0 score and have to build it up by good use of credit.

And to get that credit you quite often have to prove "residency", rather than just an address and social.

Not always - but not easy either.

And as was alluded to - many bonus offers specifically limit it to "legal permanent residents of the 50 states....", so even if you got the card, technically they could avoid giving you the bonus (according to the T&Cs)

Well hopefully better offers will open up around the world! I definitely think we are lucky in the US with the amount of offers we get...

Agree. Though I have to say right now in Australia they offer 80k MR Points for the Plat Charge Card and 50k for the Velocity flyer card.

When I had my cc's in the US the best offer 4 years ago was 35,000 AA Miles (of course that now went up to 80k as well).

It would be nice if AA or even SPG offered credit cards all over the world.

Well SPG participates in AMEX MR at places where an own CC is not being offered. I don't find the conversion rate too exciting though when you consider rates towards FF Programs.

Yes I know they do. I was referring to SPG branded cards with sign-on bonuses and at least 1:1 earning capability.
