Do you want Thai for dinner? Yep. So let's go to Thailand.

So after breakfast yesterday it was going to be slack day. MrP off to the gym. Pool area is nice. Water temp perfect. Nice views over the beach. We did go for a walk.

Some nice Asian snacks for lunch.

By now we’d been by the pool for a few hours so back to the room to change and sort out dinner. There seems to be a large group of Aussies celebrating we presumed an upcoming wedding. They stayed by the bar all day and still there at 9pm when we passed by after dinner. Two noisy people - a woman with bright red hair and we could hear her cackling even in the room. And another guy. He was awol after dinner. 😉. Turned out to be a birthday. Boring.

Back to dinner. We ordered share entree then a main each. What we didn’t know was that it was also a small degustation with items not on the menu. I don’t do degustation well. I run out of room.

IMG_0965.jpeg
Breads. Warm and cheesy plus Indian dips.

IMG_0966.jpeg
Cucumber kombucha. Cucumber makes me burp.

IMG_0967.jpeg

Lettuce cups.
IMG_0968.jpeg.
Coconut sorbet. Yum.

IMG_0970.jpeg

My meal was chicken. Tasty but by now too much.

IMG_0974.jpeg

MrP had Samui Seafood curry but not a real fan of the large octopus chunks.
IMG_0979.jpeg

We thought we were done. Phew. But nope. Coconut ice cream which was lovely.
IMG_0980.jpeg

So rather unexpectedly full we went down the stairs across the pool deck then back up one flight of stairs to our room.
PS botanist gin packs a punch. We had a can of tonic in our room that we used and a cup of ice from the bar which was down and up a flight of stairs. 😂

A couple more from breakfast today. Thought the honeycomb run off was clever.
Bakery.

The Egg Chef.

After breakfast we booked the seafood bbq dinner and fire dance for Tuesday night and the Garden Tour and Thai cookery school for Thursday night. It sounds fabulous.

This afternoon we will grab a taxi to go to Chaweng Markets.

Hopefully the hard drinking guests won't fall down the stairs as there is a high probability any injuries wouldn't be covered by travel insurance.

The place does look lovely but too much sun for MrLtL - too many skin cancers in the past means he has to be really careful. And I burn to a crisp as well. Besides he is not fan of hot weather. And for me the stairs would be the deal breaker. I need to hold on to the bannister going both up and down. But that doesn't stop me enjoying your wonderful break.

We’ve always found a shady spot but as in today we moved locations part way through. We are slathered in sunburn cream as well. It is sunny though. And today very hot. But fab.

Yesterday we just hung around the resort at the adults pool which remained deserted. No lunch needed just a drink. Iced chocolate for me immediately removing the stack of ice cubes. And coke. Then at 4 we used grab for a taxi to chawong markets. Needed deodorant and toothpaste 😂. Hung around until dark to try the food.

Biologic straws. Worked well. Better than the cardboard muck.

Pad Thai and chicken panang. Yummy.

Then taxi back. Around 100 baht more than grab but Optus Internet failed on me.

Back at hotel we got the cart back to the beach bar and grabbed a glass of ice then up to the room for gin.
The saxophonist sounded excellent but finished as we got there.

There is a resort directly across the bay who had the fire display happening that we have tonight. Looked speccy from the distance.

Today it is hot. Even the staff were commenting. Hard work up the hill.

Same breakfast. Then down to the beach. No chair hogs here. Water much calmer so MrP set off on a paddle board. He’s been doing this for years.

IMG_1003.jpeg

He came back after a bit and we decided to get a kayak across to the other resorts as he said it was stunning over there. Put on clothing for sun and off we went. He was right. The sand was powder soft. Water gorgeous. We will go back tomorrow and I’ll take the water camera. This is one of the busy spots. Lots of jets skis and rides and foils that aren’t allowed at Garrya.

Where we kayaked to. Across the bay.

IMG_1006.jpeg
And pool view now.
IMG_1005.jpeg

The sand here is quite gritty style pebbles. Across the bay is so much nicer. But very busy.

And there is a wedding tomorrow. At the area where we have breakfast. Up top. Then they are closing the beach restaurant from 5pm. So we will have to catch the cart up top as I ain’t walking it twice a day. The other restaurant is Evol where we went the other night - degustation style one but I don’t want all the fuss that it comes with. Hmm. There are no other walkable options.

Tonight is seafood bbq and fire night. Perfect weather. While I’m not a seafoodie I don’t mind if it’s charred to an inch of itself. And an hour of free drinks before hand. At 6pm so 5pm gin time for us.

I hate this sort of stuff. The hotel sells you their amenities and then sells them on to some third-party and denies you their use.

I’ve made very stiff complaints the last two times it happened to me at a resort type hotel and got a discount off my bill which I thought was quite appropriate.

Yeah. I'm not exactly excited about it. It's the venue they are closing that most eat at. If they'd stayed where the ceremony was then no big deal. Just checked their options and that restaurant is usually closed Weds so they will have to open it pretty much for the hotel. I've checked the menu again on Evolv and everything is seafood other than a Cobb salad and the dish I had the other night, or steak which is $$$$. Like I said, going off piste requires a taxi ride. Just wondering of the logistics of getting bride etc and group from top to bottom when everyone will be wanting rides as well to get to dinner.

Have had this happen a few times. The best response was at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok. An Indiian wedding tying up the pool and a restaurant from midday Saturday to 1am Sunday. Our room looked out over the pool. We knew the GM and our compensation with a couple of other couples was the Sunday buffet at their Japaneses restaurant.
