Checked in with blue check some 6 Hrs before flight was due to depart. Chose seat then waited in the ever so long bag drop line which took 45 Mins to get through!!! ( remembers next time to check in normal line it is much much quicker!!!)

When I reached the bag drop counter I got asked if i would like to change to a front exit row seat of course I took it!

Just wondering if they do this often and/or the fact I checked in very very early and am a Velocity FF Member had anything to do with it?

If you check-in with a human, or drop your bags off early then you can ask for an Exit Row Seat. Of course you have to meet the requirements.

Sometimes the staffers will ask when you're checking in. Spose it depends on their mood, what the loads are like on the exit rows etc.

Alternatively you can pay the extra for a Blue Zone seat and get an exit row seat guaranteed.

I strongly advise rejecting Seat 1B as it can get very squishy due to the smaller width of the seats there and having pax on both sides of you.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm flying HNL-SFO later this week on UA, and I have seat 1A too. On a 763. The "champagne" will be domestic though, unfortunately. Also 1A SFO-LAX.

And these are not 1-class a/c (and don't have leather seats).

Seat 1A was great, just next time I will remember to board the aircraft Last LOL.

was nice to be able to streach the legs out, the only downside was overhearing the Cabin Crew talk about their private lives (hard to not hear it as well!)

maybe next time I'll go for a middle exit row seat.

Sorry about the bag drop queue length - school holidays mean a lot more luggage and especially bulky/oversize/overweight, but this should be taken into consideration in rostering and the bag drop should always have less queue time than manual check in.

The seat change may have been for something as simple as accommodating a request by other people not on the same reservation to sit together (if on the same reservation this is done automatically). Also, members have noted elsewhere that the front seats are presently allocated last for fully flex fares booked on the day. Just dumb luck that there was a time lag between when you checked in at the kiosk and arrived at the counter and the shuffling happened in this time. Given the length of the queue, I think the seat change should have been effected at the gate to avoid further hold ups.

I'm afraid your Velocity membership probably had nothing to do with the seat change on this occaision. However, one of our objectives is of course to recognise high value frequent flyers in a systematic way - this capability is still being developed.

cheers

This certainly sounds interesting! :)
