After 18 months of no activity ..... To keep active, all you need is to earn 1 point from shopping or a CC ... family transfers do not count either

Family transfers do not count towards activity, however if you transfer points out of an inactive account and place them into an active account they will be preserved. This is what we've done since I fly much more than the wife and kids.
 
Is there any way to claim for my son's trip if I can't find his tickets? I specifically joined him because he went to gallipoli and gave him the card to show, however he didn't show at aiport and now I don't know where his tickets are. So that was april last year, are you saying I've got 18 months to find them? he doesn't have a credit card.

You have a year to claim for missing points which is different to keeping points alive, and you generally will need a boarding pass:

Claim missing Qantas Points for travel on eligible flights on Qantas and some Qantas partner airlines.

  • Claims can be made for travel up to 30 days before enrollment date
  • Claim must be made within 12 months of travel
  • Qantas flight claims take up to 3 working days to process
  • Qantas partner flight claims take up to 28 working days to process
  • Whether successful or not, all claims will be shown on your online Activity Statement
  • No transaction fee
Have your boarding pass or travel documentation handy to enter your flight details, and keep the documentation until your claim has been processed.

Was his Frequent Flyer card number in the booking? (And on the boarding passes? It's the boarding passes that are needed for retrospective claims).

He went with his school. I sent details to teacher to email onwards but I dont think that happened. He had card with him at check in but didn't show it.
 
It is not necessarily true that boarding passes are needed to claim missing miles. If the name on the booking exactly matches the name in your sons FF account, then it is simply a matter of submitting the flight details (number, route and date of travel) online via his account. If you/he remembers them, then don't need BP. If details don't match then need to contact FF service centre and they may need further documentation such as boarding passes, I guess.

Yes I applied online, we'll see how we go. His ppoints will expire in April so I will transfer them across to me. I could keep him active with a QantasCash card but I presumed he wasn't allowed one because of his age but now I"m thinking it's a debit card not credit card so I probably could get one for him. I"ve emailed them to find out minimum age but haven't heard back.

Or a $31 purchase at Woolworths with an Everyday Rewards card tied to his FF number. That'll keep it ticking for another 18 months too.
