I checked the terms and condtions on the Oneworld Explorer page and it states the following:

Access to some airport lounges may be restricted during peak periods and may not be available at certain third party operated lounges. Access is available on the day of departure when the next onward flight is with a oneworld airline. Access is not available to AAdvantage members travelling exclusively on North American itineraries, defined as within or between the U.S., Canada, Mexico (except Mexico City), the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Does that mean that you can get lounge access with a Oneworld Explorer economy tickets?

Welcome aboard veugelenw.

Access to lounges is not granted unless you have status or are travelling in J/F. In the US it is more complex and generally status only.

Welcome to AFF veugelenw!

As mentioned by Hvr the answer to your question is no unless you have status in a Oneworld FF program such as Qantas Gold or Platinum.

no lounge access unless you have one world status, another reason to not redeem the 140k Y award.. save up and do the 280k J award :)

Given the OWE page covers many classes, reference to lounge access will always be based on OW rules which means FF status or J/F class of service.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Given I am only Silver level on a Qantas, any further advise on how I could get lounge access most cost effectively?
I'm still 500 status points away from Gold (got around 280.000 FF points) so don't think I'll be able to get near gold before my oneworld explorer trip in May, and credit cards that provide lounge access seem all fairly pricy

How many people? Amex play charge has priority pass for one person, but comes with a few points to offset the $1200 annual fee.

Note the 30 day admirals club membership is only valid for Qantas club access before a QF or AA flight.

You would need to consider what airlines you are travelling worth and when to get optimum use.
