A Virgin Blue plane flying from Bali to Melbourne made an unscheduled landing in Broome on Sunday, leaving 148 passengers stranded after a man became ‘‘unruly’’ during the flight.
His behaviour was worrying enough to convince the plane’s captain to divert to Broome where it was met by local police at 1am (WST).
‘‘He was handcuffed while on board, he wasn’t following instructions or requests by the crew,’’ Virgin Blue spokeswoman Melissa Thomson said.
Broome police Sergeant Geoff Dorrington said the unruly passenger was a 40-year-old man from Melbourne who did not threaten anyone on the plane but had displayed ‘‘bizarre’’ behaviour that had alarmed passengers and crew.
Not going to be an easy place for this man to get home from, especially if reports of him having a mental illness are true.
