With the difficulties at Sydney last night, my DJ flights MEL-SYD-OOL, got translated to MEL-BNE-OOL, with the last leg being by bus, but I still got a boarding pass for it.

I've never had a BP for something like that before, so a little novelty.

Turns out the bus ride was actually great fun. The two other guys & I spent the trip laughing and talking travel, footy and all, totally forgetting about the delays.

Nice work Virgin.

Oh that's quite funny!!

I have to ask, did you recieve seat 1A on the bus with PE service?

I didn't get the front seat, another of the pax got that. :)

However, we did get premium service. There were about 10-15 people affected and they put a large bus on, but a separate, smaller bus for the premium and status pax. We got a nice new vehicle and took off before the others who were waiting in case of stragglers.

Being AFF I'll ask before someone else does - did you get the SCs for Bne-Ool?:p

That crossed my mind too :)

However, when I had earlier asked if I would get SC for MEL-SYD + SYD-OOL, I was told no, MEL-OOL as one journey.

Actually, I also want to add that this isn't the first time I've had a BNE-OOL sector. Years ago I was on an RTW, or similar, originating from OOL and to meet the requirements I had to end up there too. MY flight back in to Australia landed in Brisbane and I took the first leg of a BNE-OOL-NTL flight.

On landing at OOL, the guy behind me asked out loud 'who the cough* flies from Brisbane to the Gold Coast?', and I was able to assist him on that point.

Was that on sunstate / qantas link (or equivalent). When did that flight cease, I've never seen bne-ool-NtL as an option looking bne-ntl.

In the late 80's I used to fly Oxley Airlines BNE-OOL-CFS ( via LSY and BNK if there were passengers

Looking at a July 2000 Timetable booklet, QF2421 was a DH3 flying BNE-OOL-NTL. QF2426 would fly the reverse.

On Sunday evenings QF2438 flew NTL-CFS-BNK-OOL-BNE.

It was quite a long time ago, but I think it was Qantas Link. We had to walk a long way in the terminal and then outside to a twin prop plane, so probably QantasLink.

As for timing, it wasn't long after I shifted to the Coast and that was 1998, so soon after then.

You have some nice records serfty. I used to catch QF2426 OOL-BNE to link up with flights to ROK and MKY from BNE. It was late 90's and early 00's when all the M1 construction was happening and it was so simple to fly. I am fairly certain through memory they were operated by Sunstate and they were a mixture of dash 8 200/300 aircraft. If I remember correctly they stopped the route in about 2003/04 and claimed the new airtrain from Robina and the M1 completion had greatly affected the numbers of people using it from OOL

There used to be rumours of certain politicians who would fly the BNE-OOL route.

They would have their driver drop them at BNE to catch the flight, then drive to OOL to pick them up at the other end.

In the late 90's I was on one of those QF 37,500 point round Australia J class redemption tickets & I had some routing that I wanted to end in BNE but was just over the 37,500 kms, however OOL was under so the last sector was SYD/OOL. Mentioned on checkin I was actually wanting to go the BNE they gripped the SYD/OOL coupon of the paper ticket & put me on a SYD/BNE flight.

Imagine the laughter if somebody dropped that chestnut in Parliament.

If you wouldnt like it appearing on the front page of the Courier-Mail, dont do it.

A simple rule, yet surprisingly good advice I find......

We use to live on the Goldy and when use to go on hols we sometimes use to fly up to BNE to go somewhere else.

This was back in the 80's

Sunstate use to do it and Ansett also done it.

When flying from BNE to Dubbo there was one stop and that was OOL and that was on Ansett.
