I just have a few gripes over the process when it comes to changing a flexi fare that has been upgraded.

First of all I purchased a flexi fare with a promo code and successfully used the upgrades.

But when it comes to changing the dates, the process becomes frustrating.

I knew I had to pay the fare difference - however my understanding was that as long as the same fare bucket was in inventory - no difference would be charged.

Nope- slugged the extra margin between promo vs normal fare.

then came the $35 GCC fee - well if the website wasn't so incapable - I wouldn't had to ring up and waste time on 3 phone calls to speak to someone.

my take is that VA is looking to squeeze more out of those benefits given how valuable they are- especially when used on a a C2C new J product.

keen to hear your thoughts.

I think a few people have run into the issue of changing a Promo Fare - fare difference is charged. And that is without the upgrade complication.....

For a data point, I've done this frequently without issue.

All my fares are on a promo and I've needed to change quite a few over the past few months. I've found that if the same bucket still exists (ie the same fare I would have paid without the promo is still showing for sale), then I can get the GCC to change into it without additional cost (meaning I still have the promo fare). If the bucket doesn't exist, they do want to charge the difference and the difference is something strange which I have not been able to fathom (this was once only and the additional fare advised was more than the difference between what I paid....promo fare.....and the fare showing for sale on-line at that time, but not enough to cover a GCC fee as well).

The GCC fee has always been waived for me, as I (truthfully) tell the GCC staffer that I'm in the PNG highlands and lucky to have a phone let alone internet that's reliable enough to alter a booking and that has always been accepted (thankfully).

The only difference I see, is that I've been upgrading at the lounge.....after the date changes have all been finalised and put to bed. It seems to work for me (touch wood as I have another to do shortly as soon as a client locks me in).
