It's annoyed me for quite a while and now I finally remember to post this on the forum.

For my weekend away trips, I usually choose the late night flights flying into Tullamarine. I am talking about flights arriving at MEL domestic from about 10pm onwards. Every single time, whether I was flying Jetstar or Virgin Australia, after the plane has come to a complete stop at the parking bay, an announcement would be made in the cabin saying something like, 'The ground crew has advised that we will be disembarking from the front door only'.

My question is, is the ground crew too lazy to pull out the stairs for the rear door? Or is there some other reason?

Or the ground crew who carry that out have gone home by then, reduce the staffing levels throughout the evening to save some money as the passenger numbers drop off.

Thought the same thing cost-wise, I also presume they only want to use two door disembarking/boarding, when they need to turn the plane around quickly for the next flight out (as opposed to an overnight rest on the tarmac).

If some ground staff have gone home late at night does this mean the landing fees are reduced so in turn the fares are cheaper? Ha!!
