Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Ggggg immee a break bobsquish….. it's just a bloody cat we are discussing..
Folks are too soft.. why do you think cats have servants ?

Our (drop dead gorgeous) cat came (to a new home via the rspca) with a few small issues..
Claws and teeth were appropriate devices to influence the humans when they were slow to obey.
So I lost a bit of blood a couple of times.. but made my points firmly.
We are now very close friends (can't get rid of it) but I am also the benevolent dictator……
I am also a v e r y …. experienced animal trainer and have sorted out many dysfunctional relationships (dogs, cats, nags) to the benefit of both parties .
Ummm, what can I say?
In the 19th century many people had similar thought about children.
This thread is mostly about people who think cats should be allowed to behave in the nature and genetics dictate.
Humans are more violent than cats.
And what method do you use to "train" cats?
Cats do want they want to to do, and not what some 19th century mid set thinks they should do :

If you do not like cats behaving in the way nature intended, please post your ideas on some other thread.

If you do not like cats behaving in the way nature intended, please post your ideas on some other thread

This seems an unfortunate position to express on a thread devoted to admiring domestic cats
Do you actually cohabit with a domestic cat Spongbob ?
Is it house trained ?
Does it have a litter tray ?

and to prove my superiority.. I won this round by a knockout with not a drop of blood to be seen…., 🥴

Max is back from his visit to the vet, returning minus a couple of items, Don't know if it's the drugs but he seems crazier than normal! :)

He loves this toy, dragging it as if it's a "kill".

Then racing back to his other favourite toy,

Just wait til you catch him drinking out of the toilet!

I could probably deal with that if it was flushed before, we are wondering if it's issues from the drugs or he wasn't properly toilet trained as he doesn't like using the litter boxes all the time. There is a small area of dirt in the enclosure that we haven't got round to paving and he likes to do his solids there. Thinking we will fill a tray with soil and see if he uses that.

We had to adapt with Earl. He was fine with solids in the tray, but he peed on the tile floor a lot. I used to tilt his litter trays so that there was a big clear flat patch and that worked. We also had made our own trays out of plastic storage tubs as he would dig over the litter crystals and they'd go everywhere, so easier to contain with higher sides in the storage tub. Though he did take to peeing in the bathtub, which while annoying was a bit easier to clean. I caught him peeing in the toilet once too, so we regularly would flush the toilet in the morning and as soon as we got home from work just in case.

It certainly can't hurt to try the soil in the tray trick.

Felicity won't use anything BUT her litter tray. She is allowed out during the day if I am home, and she will come in specifically to use the tray. I got an extra large one as her aim wasn't always the best in a regular one.

Should have just trained her to use the toilet.

Hi all cat lovers, am new to this whole thing. But now have a cat after being a dog person for "ever".

Our new addition to the family is Louis, a rag doll. Already he is scaring me - over 4kg at 5 months old, despite being lean. And an amazing dense fur that makes him twice as big.

He walks me everyday. This is so new to me. Walking a cat. I have taken it philosophically and am learning to "stop to smell the roses". Will post photos once I learn how to do this on AFF :)

This is Louis. I have no idea as still learning about cats, but I think he is a "Bi-colour Ragdoll"? Here he is helping me unload the dishwasher and put things away.

We weighed him today - 4.3 kg, still in his fifth month. Apparently these buggers can exceed 10kg when fully grown? :O We feed him a natural or raw diet. I swear my wife pays more attention to feeding him than me. He is not food-obsessed - unlike dogs like labradors etc that I have had previously. He just seems to eat when he is actually hungry. His favorite sport is hunting insects. Being winter these are not plentiful, but during walks on the lawn he finds many. Can't wait till summer when we get the odd pesky fly - he will annihilate them.

I have read that rag dolls are the most "dog-like" breed of cats. Louis gets excited when we return home, and waits at the door for us. I expect that in a pet, being used to dogs, but apparently this is not the norm for felines. He is quite vocal when he wants something, like going for a walk outside.

And in this chapter of my life I am enjoying learning new things, like what is "kitty litter" and how to manage it So much cleaner a task than dealing with confined dogs!!
