Discussion Dogs, Pups, K 9’s and man’s best friend in general [with Pictures]

Strangest dog I have ever seen. Apparently they are Peruvian Hairless dogs, couldn't reall get a great photo as they were all covered up, it wasn't that warm! I have other photos somewhere, just have to find them.

There were also a couple of hairy ones, I can only find the white one for now, there was also a black one.

I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they choose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas out there with some good ideas.

My kids, aged 12 and 10, have launched a sustained campaign for us to get a dog.

Before I finally surrender, I’m trying to understand the practical side of dog ownership, particularly holidays. What do people usually do with their dogs when they travel? Do you use boarding kennels, pet sitters, friends or family?

For those who use dog boarding or “doggy hotels”, roughly how much does it cost per day, and have you found the experience reliable?

Any other hidden costs or practical issues that prospective dog owners tend to underestimate would also be useful to know.

Coming from a person whose elderly special needs dog died last year

They are more expensive than you think they could be

Make sure the breed doesn't have any know issues eg breathing issues, seizures etc

Our dog started out at the local Hanrob and was fine there , due to health conditions he ended up having stays at the local specialist hospital for boarding .

They can give so much joy . We miss ours

When away, either a kennel (Hanrob) for weekends, a pet sitter, or we get someone in to dog and house sit.
We've used sites such as Trusted Housesitters to find housesitters.

A dog sitter we used last year has put up her rates to $150/night at peak times (i.e. Easter, Christmas week, New Year's week). We probably won't use her for Christmas as it'll be over $2k to have the dog with her.
