Just wondering what is the difference between discount economy and regular economy. I mean besides price.

Is it the time of booking? Do you need to book at least 2 months in advance to get the discount economy? Are there a certain number allocated to each flight and it's first in first serve?

Are there drawbacks to discount economy seats? Non-refundable or something?

What qualifies discount economy seats?

I assume you're talking about Qantas.

Full economy fares allow free changes, are fully refundable, and earn more status credits.

As far as Qantas goes, it simply depends upon the booking class "fare bucket" of your flight and whether it's international or not.

Domestically, discount WHY are fare codes O, G, Q, N, S, V, L, R & M; more here:

Internationally, discount WHY is any "economy" fare except Y.
