Have never seen so much cough around the air vents/lights today in my life while on a VA 737. Is this a sign of average maintenance? A filter needs changing? Looks somewhat disconcerting:

Just reading the title, my first thought was VA and yep, not surprised.

What route was this flight? The only time I have ever seen anything like it was regional airline in/out to the coal mines. Coal dust was impossible to avoid.

No, I gave up giving feedback to VA years ago. Only reason we still fly with them is the ease of booking reward domestic J.

If you're complaining to customer service about it then I'm not surprised, they wouldn't have the power to defect the aircraft. Have a whinge to the CSM/ISM about it and they'll hopefully write it up in the cabin log and get the engineers onto it.

Unless its a broken window, I don't think dirt around air vents would put an aircraft into defect mode, or have the air vents cleaned.
Not a priority.
The next person on here, if they know the plane rego, and fly that plane again, can put in a report, and see if there are any changes.
I was on a plane once, a kid puked herself in front of me, that zone of the plane stank for about 25 mins, I had gotten off, the girl and her parents then got off and went to loo, I am not sure if the crew were notified, and what happens to the seat, or how it was washed/dealt with.
I don't even want to think of what happens to an Aust aircraft seat that has been peed or pooed on!
Dirt on the air vents is one thing, where you are putting your bum on that plane seat, is more important.
This is of course a thread jack, but there are worst things on a plane, than dirt on air vents.

Totally agree with you but its such a small fix and yet its not done and it will be there the next 6, 10 times you get on this plane.

Most office, building, asset issues can be fixed very simply and the overall impression and benefit is well received by staff and users but its a case of upper management doesnt see the problem.

I would suggest OP puts it on twitter and their FB account - sadly, public shaming seems to be what works these days.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Mentioning nicely to the FA as you deplane is probably the most effective thing, and a lot easier than taking a photo and posting here. I realize it can be uncomfortable, but it is still best. A good crew will take note and this should start the process of fixing the problem.

I had some dirty tray tables on a few planes last year. I mentioned it to the FA the last time I experienced it and they asked me very specific questions (what seat, what kind of mess, etc). I felt like they were going to take care of it. I also sent a note to VA and they sent me a canned response at first... but after a follow-up they did seem like they wanted more information in order to fix the problem.

Yes they should have this stuff sorted and yes they should have procedures that prevent it from ever happening. But, if they don't realize there is a problem it won't get fixed as quickly as if they are told about it.

Or you could take your complimentary napkin and wipe it off yourself, right then and there :D:D LOL

I think a lot has to be said about the cleanliness of VA planes.

I've even complained about J class on the a330 having crumbs on the floor and wrappers left visibly around the seats when boarding.

May need spray and wipe as well looking at the picture. hard to get through security, ;)

Yeah, when I sat down the first thing that came into my head was "I could use a Chux and some S&W around this cabin".
FAs usually get embarrassed when I bring this kind of stuff up, and I don't like doing that to them. No reply on twitter. so meh.
Case closed.

Typically a cleaner comes on with a bottle of spray stuff, squirts it, wipes it with a chux. Done.

Tip for carry fluro sticky note and tape to area. That should get the FA attention.
