I have booked the Grand Hyatt DFW for an overnight layover; I gather the hotel is in Terminal D, landside. We arrive next month on QF 7 at 1300 in Terminal D, and leave from Terminal B on AA 3692 at 0700 for Toronto. Am I right in thinking we can check in our bags and collect BPs at Terminal D in the morning, and then catch the airside skytrain from Terminal D to Terminal B? Also apart from the (expensive, I gather) hotel restaurant, what are the restaurant options for dinner? Can we catch the train to somewhere nearby to stretch our legs, grab a bite to eat before returning that evening to the hotel? thanks for any advice!

You can check in (including bags) and clear security for AA at any terminal A thru D, then use the SkyLink to get to any AA gate in under 15 minutes. Given that context I highly recommend avoiding the old and dumpy Regency and choosing the Grand instead. I'd actually choose the new Hyatt Place on the south side of the airport before the Regency.

There's a chance that your bags may be tagged through to YYZ when you checkin at SYD in which case after clearing customs with your bags in DFW you'd be able to drop them off on the transfer belt before heading to the hotel. It may be worth taking what you need for the overnight at the Grand Hyatt in your carryon luggage in case your bags can be checked through to YYZ. Even if your bags are only checked to DFW you won't have to unpack them at the hotel if your clothes for the next day are in your carry on.

How many Hyatt points would you need for an award night at DFW? Would it be cheaper to buy some hotel points or do you have an airmiles that you could convert to Hyatt points for the stay?

If you have an Amex Plat charge card you (plus 2 guests) get access to the Centurion Lounge at Terminal D (opposite gate D17) which I believe opens at 0530. If you have an Amex credit card the cost is USD50.00 pp.

We've stayed the the Hyatt Regency at terminal C, admittedly I didn't realise it was off terminal - doh, but it was fine for a quick overnight enroute from SXM to HNL. Have heard good things about the Home2 Suites at DFW.

I read reports that it is a real pain to go through security again to get airside so might just eat at the hotel restaurant....I found a hotel menu and whilst the food is a little dear, it is not too bad

I don't and our flight leaves Terminal B at 0700 so won't really have time but great suggestion

We will do this on the return as we have a 12 hour transit at DFW before catching QF 8 back to Sydney. Want to go and see the Sixth Floor Museum/Texas School Book Depository; any other suggestions to see / do / eat at Dallas from 11am to 5 pm?

Love DFW and the shuttle bus from the airport to Grapevine. It is within the wider airport area and takes about 10-15min to get to. From memory it's $10 for a round trip. Head into grapevine for a look around and a great choice of local restaurants. Or you could do some shopping at the outlet mall

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt many times and its brilliant as is the AA flight checkin which is literally at the bottom of the escalators or lifts....Havent tried to go airside so cant comment but the food offerings airside are great....The airtrain is easy and super quick so no hastles there....And forget about shopping at the outlet as its gone way downhill over the years and now has many vacancies and down markets stores....Restaurants in Grapevine are great.

We are on a QF RTW award J PNR and both lifetime QC Bronze members.
We will depart DFW on an AA domestic flight AA5814 to RAP at 10:45am and hoping to use a lounge for our breakfast before flying out.

Question 1.
My understanding is that on departing Dallas we will be granted access to the Qantas club in DFW Terminal D under the rule "Next onward flight must be a Qantas or American Airlines flight number." Am I correct in assuming we will be granted access?

Question 2.
The flight we are catching historically departs from Terminal B gates between 35 and 45. How long would it take to get airside from the QC in Terminal D to this set of gates in Terminal B?

Question 3.
Is catching a taxi from downtown to DFW the most practical & not too expensive way of getting there without lugging our belongings around too much?

There is no Qantas Club in DFW. Qantas use a third party lounge there.

However, all is not lost. I believe Qantas Club membership will get you into the AA Admirals Lounge. Having said that, I would eat elsewhere food options in the lounge are abysmal. You can pay to order some food, but not even seen the breakfast menu.

IIRC QC members have access to AA lounges when on AA flights, so you should be able to go to the closest one to your departure gate.

Anecdotes including recent ones indicate that in practice as a QP member you will get access before an AA flight.

Yes, I see that. The QF website says it is an associated lounge operated by AA. When I check the AA site is says its not an Admirals Lounge (to which I have no access) but it is a "Premium Lounge" (to which it seems from my reading I do have access).

There is no QF lounge at DFW. They use a 3rd party contract lounge.

Last time I stayed in Dallas, I used an Uber between the airport and hotel (I was at another Hilton property closer to the airports, near medical center - the Downtown HGI is within walking distance of the JFK museum).

The flight ex DFW flight is a domestic AA5814 DFW-RAP. The Canadair Regional Jet 900 is only 2 class so AA have put us in "First".

I am aware that regardless of seat type that normally USA airlines do not grant access to lounges unless the flight is international. But the QF site wording leads me to believe that QC members (even Bronze) get access at this airport regardless of destination.

Thanks for the information on DART, I'll check out whether there is a DART station near the Downtown HGI.
