Hi all

hoping someone can help here

I am looking at travel insurance for a period of 8.5 months, two people, worldwide

Most of the insurers look similar, and so I have already decided I want dental, and unlimited medical/emergency evacuation

But I have come up against a problem - depreciation

We plan to take camping gear thats mid-high end (and even though its old its still worth over 2 grand, and replacing it would be at least double-triple that).

Having a look around I am going to get hammered with depreciation, and effectively if it gets lost, I will get very little back.

So do I have any choices, can I take the gear to a valuer (is there even one) and get it assessed for its value.

We do need to take it as this is what we will be using to sleep in!

Hoping someone can help :)

Does anyone know an insurer that might cater for this, or do I just have to take the risk?

I think your bigger problem will be getting cover for a trip of 8½ months.

If you recently purchased the geat then a receipt should be enough.

Other than that a valuation may be useful - perhaps document the value for sales of similar items on eBay.

Thanks for the reply

the length of coverage seems to be OK - as long as I am prepared to pay the premium of course

I have to check, but the definition of the trip start/finish seems to be on leaving Australia and on re-entry

the gear is actually about 7 years old, but because its so darned expensive to replace its been treated well between trips

If I dragged my sleeping bag up against a new one you would be hard told to tell the difference

so im stuffed there

I might look at agreed value etc. Just wondering if anyone knew a travel insurer that was able to cater for such things

AAMI offers travel insurance that's new for old replacement on luggage etc
