Departure port switch and ORC question!

Well. The QF9 delay out of MEL tonight has screwed me. 2 hour delay with only an 80 minute scheduled transfer in DXB.
Currently I'm booked flex Y as QF696 > QF9 > QF8045 (EK445) on a single PRN. I have upgraded the domestic using points, also requested points upgrade on the MEL-DXB sector.
Has anyone had luck in the past with requesting a transfer from Qantas to an EK codeshare flight, out of a different port?
I'm awaiting a callback from a QF prompted SMS message, but was going to propose switching to EK441 codeshare which gives me a more comfortable 3 hour stopover in DXB.
Bonus points for keeping original routing credit for points and SC and DSC.
Actually, the only reason I booked this trip on QF metal out of MEL (instead of out of ADL as I usually would) was due to the DSC offer that will bump me to SG this month.
If anyone would like to share their experiences i'd be grateful!

80minutes is more than do-able at DXB specially if it's all within the A gates. I don't see a reason to change at this point. They would get you to DXB and if you missed the EK connection they'd just put you on the next option. I would leave it as is IMHO.

Was the 80 minute transfer before the 2 hour delay? I agree with RichardMEL that 80 mins is plenty at DXB.

But if it was originally 80 minutes and you've now been delayed 2 hours obviously you'll miss and QF/EK will (should) proactively rebook you onto next available out of DXB.

That's my point, Qantas know it's already going to be missed, as QF9 is delayed and they reached out proactively. EK only have two flights a day to FRA and I'd rather not arrive at my destination 6 hours late if we know about it ahead of time.

sure call and see what they offer. Either way ORC shouldn't be an issue at all. They may not book you onto the QF codeshare number at this point due to availability of fare classes (I haven't looked at that just a thought) but either way your ADL-MEL-DXB ORC shouldn't be an issue

As others have said, you will be booked on the next available flight with your current PNR. Switching to a different departure of origin flight, hmmm, not sure if that can be done. You could ask, but I'm betting they will charge you a high change fee. Only way to know is to ask, I guess.

Its not great to arrive at you destination 6 hours late, but these things happen. Better late, than never. But if you cannot switch to the earlier EK flight, your options will be limited. You may just have to accept it.

I spoke with Andrea at the QF premium helpdesk; she was extremely helpful. She originally offered to rebook on the (6 hour later) next flight DXB- FRA. After some gentle prompting, she not only rebooked me on the EK441 codeshare, she also refunded my points used to upgrade the domestic leg with all penalties waived. She also confirmed that I would absolutely receive the ORC should i choose to claim them post-travel.

I have to thank all respondents and this amazing resource. Without AFF I would not have had the knowledge to request and successfully negotiate this outcome.
