Were the tickets purchased separately or as part of the one pnr?

With through ticketing, you should have had bags checked through and bps issued prior to departure from SYD (and solving the "waiting" issue).

If no checked luggage, was OLCI a possibility?

BNE have NEVER scanned my P1 card. They just wave me through with a smile.

Usually I use a BP but there have been a few times I've walked in (on arrival) showing my card. No issue. Same at MEL

and yes, that's perfectly legit under the rules. I would suspect a Gold showing a card should expect to be scanned,

It’s also a matter of service. Many times after scanning my card they’ve given me an update on the flight (running late, on time etc) Other times I’ve forgotten to check in so they’ve checked me in. I have no problems with them scanning my card.

It is on one PNR so the baggage was checked all the way through, but because China Eastern is not part of oneworld (it is Skyteam) Qantas told me in Sydney that I would need to go to their counter in Melbourne to get boarding pass.

Can't remember the last time they scanned my SG card in MEL Dom lounge. Usually just showing it to the staff on entry is all that is required.

If the the card had been scanned it should have given the green light for entry.
