I am a long time QF flyer, only occasionally flying VA in the last couple of years. I will be travelling to USA this December, and one of the trips to YSNP is booked with Delta. Today I looked at my booking confirmation, there is an upgrade offer of $189.50 on my entire 3 legs (LAS - xSLC - BZN, BZN - LAX).
I'm not familiar with the rules of DL with VA, but wondering would this upgrade give me status credit of First class (40 each) or still my original booking class (which is Main Cabin L)?
Assume I will be given the first class status credit, the second question is whether it's worth to do so:
1) I will be travelling with MRS together, so that's $380 for both us. But with SC pooling, it will get us over the Silver status.
2) I believe at least we will be travelling with 2 baggages, so that's going to cost $25 each which is at least $100 in total trip. If we opt for the upgrade, I believe we will get free baggage allowance. (Side point is I am actually requesting status match from Alitalia, and if approved, I will get one bag free).
My gut feeling is I shouldn't do the upgrade, but if anyone can let me know anything I'm missing here?
Thanks...

I cant answer about the SCs but I vote heck yes for an upgrade - but that's me. I... I cant go back there. J ruined me forever.

The upgrade should re-book into a premium revenue fare bucket (such as G) so should credit Ok.

Ì suggest you never use the term upgrade if you accept the offer in correspondence with Velocity - just some risk averse advice there.

Well, I'm afraid the damage is done already after a few points upgrades with QF 380 and recent F awards to AKL with EK, plus the FLounge at Mel, for me a lowly SG with QF...

with regards to the earn level, expect to earn at original paid class , if you earn at the upgrade class consider it a bonus

from the website

Members travelling on Upgraded fares purchased with Points or any other subsidised means of Upgrades on Virgin Australia or our partner airlines will earn Points based on originally purchased fare classes.

The upgrades offered online by DL are regarded as "any other subsidised" ie the full cost to upgrade the sectors you are on would be a lot more than your offer

Agree here. Had a Y booking in fare class "L" for my wife and did a paid " upgrade to first ". Delta resent the confirmation with new fare class "A"

So it should credit ok

No, Delta do this often and it definitely earns at the higher class level. I did it three weeks ago.

The offer is to "upgrade your flights" but it is actually offering a discounted upsell to First Class rather than an upgrade.

What you have written is what should happen, but in reality the booking moves up to a higher paid fare bucket, not an award bucket.

Apologies for the massive bump, but just wanting to see if this is still relevant. Looking to upgrade +1 and my flight from LAS - LAX from W to F. Cost is $63US per person. I'm VA WP so I get free luggage but my +1 has zero status so thinking the upgrade isn't too bad considering he'll have to pay $25US for checked luggage anyway. Just wanting to see if it will earn the first class status credits?

The way Delta processes these upgrades is by refare, so that should earn as F. It isn't really an 'upgrade', it is purchasing a F ticket for the fare difference. In practice, it does work that way.

However there is a slight chance it won't work and I suspect if it isn't automatically credited then you might struggle with Velocity over the difference. I wouldn't worry about it, but I wouldn't put my requal on the line over it either.

The earn would be an additional 10SC each; hardy worth it for that.

What luggage allowances are shown for each of you.

If on the same by booking I thought you'd bothget the same. But I don't know for sure as I don't check luggage.

According to confirmation email my first two checked bags are free and +1's are both $25USD each. However checking my bookings on Delta website says 'check at airport during check in for baggage allowances'. Not holding my breath but would be nice surprise if his were included too.

I've done this a couple of times in the past, always had the first class status and points applied without issue.

If you upgraded booking now shows a business or first class fare bucket (e.g. G) then earn will be for first/business.
