Yesterday on my first ever trip to the USA flying Delta I got caught up in the Delta system meltdown.

The scene at LAX on landing was one of complete chaos with people lying sleeping on the floor, children covered in red Delta blankets, and little to no announcements.

After waiting all day for a connecting flight and seeing many flights cancelled and some angry passengers I got on board my flight to RDU. TOld I may make the connecting flight as all flights were late. More gate changes, even terminal changes from 5 to 6.

Finally got to RDU late evening ... where Delta organised a hotel at least, no food vouchers although I learnt later that some locals who did not even get aboard their flight RDU to DCA gt them.

NO checked luggage as apparently that was sitting waiting in DCA?? How did it get there when I did'nt ?

My query is how does a huge airline not have systems in place to prevent such an outage ? It affected passengers worlwide and is ongoing with flight cancellations even today. Can't blame Georgia Power for something that happened in Delta HQ at Atlanta, but they might want to review their IT department and software programmers.

Just heard the CEO apologising online and offering $200 USD per passenger.. any thoughts about what to expect in regards to asking for something more ?
