It's not really a hack, but often C+ can be purchased for not much more (e.g. 20-40% more ) than discount economy while earning 3 times the SC of discount economy for the same flight.

Unrelated: Do VFF Plat still get a free upgrade to C+ on Delta if it's available? That was a lovely perk I used a few years back.

Yes, you can request a C+ upgrade but it may only be granted up to 48 hours before the flight IIRC.

Yes Delta regard VFF Plat as "Platinum Medallion / Elite Plus " which is where the perk kicks in. For me the upgrade has always happened at the gate and displayed on the screens.

When you have attached your Velocity number to the booking and lookup the trip on delta.com it should read along the lines of "Complimentary Upgrade Eligible" which is to the right of "xx_ DAYS FROM DEPARTURE".

On a domestic flight always sit in the front row of Comfort+. If First is empty they will move the front Comfort+ into First and provide a normal First service to you, excluding the Pre-departure drink.

Great tip, thanks!

I am not sure if this is still the case, but previously If i had other people on the booking the upgrade would not occur, it had to be only myself on the Booking to get the upgrade to comfort+

20 Comfort+ flights taken last year with Empty F Cabins and I can assure you that is not the case. Yes I’m a Plat!

Happened to me last week. It maybe down to the type of aircraft and operator. It done due to load/weight balancing.

What were the circumstances?
One person was in First and Economy+ and Economy was full. It was on an Embraer 75

I've also experienced a few previous experiences on various USA flights of moving due to balancing reasons, which I am sure was also a pretty small aircraft.
