I just wondered if anyone knew why a friend of mine was delayed 10 hours last Wednesday flying from Sydney to Paris via Singapore - he hasn't told me which flight was delayed.

I am trying to find places to warn people against using Air France and even though its almost a year ago I'd add the comment it was probably an Air France flight that caused the delay. I've just returned from a return trip Bne-Singapore-Paris-Dublin 1 ticket with Air France and I did have the mistaken belief that maybe they would not leave without passengers (delayed by one of their earlier connecting flights not running according to schedule) but they couldn't care less. We even asked for our return leg Dublin to Paris to be changed to an earlier flight as those run every couple of hours and we could not afford to miss the connection in Paris but we did and were forced to spend 24 hrs there and then almost had to do it again the next night in Singapore. Many passengers on our Paris Singapore leg bound for Sydney did have to spend the night in Singapore and I spent the whole time there trying to change the boarding card that was reissued when we missed the connection in Paris to same flight just different seats so they had us flying out of Paris and flying out of Singapore same night.

There has been a spate of industiral action at AF recently, though this is hardly news in their case.
Some friends were booked to fly from Mauritius to London via Paris last Monday, but had the final CDG-LHR legged cancelled and had to fly on the Tuesday morning. They has a stressful time finding somwhere to stay especially as no native taxi driver would take them on a 40 Euro ride and it was a Pole who took them in the end. AF made no extra provision at CDG for the inbound 747 full of passengers, so chaos ensued along with much shrugging of shoulders. I gather the in flight catering was good, but I think it would take a lot to get them to ever board an AF flight again.
