delay between booking and issuing ticket

I made an online booking that used a flight credit and I had to pay the fare difference which was only about $70. I used an Amex card which for some reason didn't seem to go through because I did not receive the ticket - no charge was showing in my Amex account.

So I called and payed the $70 by Visa - this charge is showing in my Visa account, so I guess that's progress. But I have not received the ticket.

How long should I expect to wait to receive the ticket and what is the reason for the delay?

My experience with etickets is that they usually take less than 10 minutes to issue. After 30-60 minutes of waiting, I phone the Call Centre. Those that take that long, usually have a ‘glitch’, or were not properly processed at the time, is the advice that is usually provided, and would have sat in a queue until manual intervention (at some point in time).

Edit: There’s no point in double-posting and creating a new thread when you’ve already asked the same question in an existing thread: Ticketing Delay

And, welcome to AFF.

Are my seats on the flights secure at this point?

I have booked the same trip on Virgin using points as a back-up. They are allowing no-fee cancellations up until April.

All passengers will need a ticket in order to board. It’s a matter of how long you wish to wait before checking with the Call Centre on the status of the eticket.

But I mean, could my seats go to someone else, or are the seats reserved until the issue is resolved?

I booked a reward flight the other day. It took 24 hours for them to issue the tickets and take the points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If I don’t have an eticket, what do I have? Nothing.

If the bookings are solely on QF flights, then you should be okay, compared to some international carriers who may cancel after a day or two. However, you should monitor the issue of the eticket. You do not have a confirmed booking until it’s ticketed.

Edit: By the way, in my experience, resolving an issue usually means that I have to prompt the Call Centre to look into the booking and to fix what turns out to be some glitch, or error made by the booking agent. Don’t expect these things to just magically fix themselves.

I am in the same boat. 3 reward flights on Alsaka, all cancelled twice for no reason. The my bookings shows the flights but the emailed itinerary does not.
Now on hold for eternity to see if I can get these things ticketed, as there seems to be only 2 seats on the flights I want. Another thread stated that QF have to wait for the host carrier to issue tix, then QF can issue their own.

Me thinks that's some made up story (by the agent, not the person who reported it) :) QF does not need to wait for the other airline to issue a ticket before they send you one. They just need to hit the 'ticket now' button (or whatever it is).

Me too. This time I am waiting on hold until they ticket it.

This is an automated process. As posted above, no-one at QF needs to ‘wait’ on the other airline. It is usually pretty much instant. The ticket will be issued by QF.

I have heard where an airline has to request confirmation of award seats from a partner airline. But I don't think that has anything to do with actual ticketing. The other airline simply confirms the seats, which QF/AN Other airline then tickets.

Spoke to Capetown today, explained I was getting cancelled flights.
2 hours later they call back just as a e-ticket came through.
Definitely worth the pain of waiting on hold to get that tix issued :)
