Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Update to the previous post. For the "sweep", 2 of the transactions were still in "pending" state and therefore missed out. Unfortunately one was the 3rd overall transaction and therefore included the 40,000 points. The first two transactions totaled $83 or 83 points, so apparently they round up or down to the nearest 10, with the remaining 3 points staying in the account. And they agreed their website was a bit poor for not showing overall points balance - apparently this only applies to the Qantas DJ Amex version of the site.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Hi,

I'm wondering how other people's experience compares to mine:
- Signed up and received my card a few weeks ago.
- On the 14th and 15th June made 4 transactions totaling a little over $100.
- They are all listed on the "Transaction Summary" page along with 40,000 bonus points which was associated with the 3rd transaction.
- On the 19th June 80 points were removed from the account as part of the transfer, with the corresponding QFF 60 points showing up on Qantas site.
- Of the 4 transactions, none of the transactions or combination of transactions equalled 80 points.
- Nowhere on the DJ site showed the total DJ points, only the transactions which one would have to manually add up.

A quick call to the help desk revealed the following:
- Points are only transferred once a month - being the 19th of every month.
- Confirmed that my total points was 40000+ (134 earned minus 80 transferred) and at the same time acknowledged that the site was not flash not having a "total", yet still having a "total transferred to QFF" which was on the front page.
- Had no idea how only 80 points were transferred and not the full whack, although investigating and will get back to me. Concern that the 19th July another hiccup may occur.

This is definitely not normal from my experience and the experiences I have seen reported.

Top of page after you log in there is a drop down menu which states 'Rewards'. Click on that and you should see 'Refer friends and earn rewards'

If people can't find any other link mine is still available:

http://amex.com.au/refer/davidnmYu2

By using this link you will gain 40,000 points and I will benefit by 20,000 points.

I have used your link to apply for this card and have received a text message saying that i have been approved . look like 20k points coming your way .

I currently hold the Explorer Card should i setup a different login account for this card or using the same log in with Explorer . Thinking about cancel this one after i received 40,000 bonus to get the Platinum Edge for better Supermarket earn rate .

You can do it either way. It may be a personal preference but I always set up a new login for each of my AMEX cards.

Remember that points usually post as soon as you make your 3 purchases. So it will be possible to cancel before the annual fee is deducted if you are quick and that is assuming you want to do this.

Just used your link Dr R, thanks for the continuing advice on ccs.

Assuming application success and receipt of card before going o/s in 12 days, in theory, could it work to go to 3 shops in 10 mins, spend min $ to try to get in to cancel before the fee charge to cancel? Should I decide to do that.

Many thanks for that. Hopefully I'll see some points soon as you are the second person to tell me that they have used my link but no points have yet been awarded.

Yes. Definitely possible if that is the route you wish to take. Some have reported doing exactly this.

In order to get the points I purchased 1 x $5 WISH cards 3 times in online transactions. Bonus points were awarded the next day.

Notwithstanding the information I received above in that they only sweep into the QFF account on the 19th of each month (that is what I'm told). I'm not sure what would happen to those points if the card was cancelled before points were transferred and there is no way to manually transfer them to avoid that.

I applied 12 hours ago and still no credit check, they'll have to do better than this. ;)

Sometimes Amex don't do credit checks.

I've taken my points as AMEX points not QFF points. As soon as AMEX points post you can transfer them to partners like SPG instantly.

I wonder if the system glitches we experienced a month or two back have returned!

If you haven't heard anything after about 5 business days, best give them a call. The DJ AMEX team seem not quite as on the ball as the vanilla AMEX team.

Don't think so. At least not for everyone. I have a friend who applied a week ago. They got their new card today.

Applied yesterday ~ 0700 and just got notice from Equifax that AMEX has done a credit check.

Hi all, I'm considering this one and will definitely be using a referral link from this thread. I've never had a DJ AMEX but still don't entirely understand if this will impact my 18mo exclusion for a regular AMEX? I'm waiting since cancelling the AMEX Premium last year and don't want to 'reset the clock' on my 18 months.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Global_nomad, you can have the DJs AMEX whether or not you have, or have had a direct AMEX in the last 18 months. There is no exclusion, except if you have had a DJs AMEX in the last 18 months. It will not affect your waiting period for a direct AMEX.

What I like about this card is the 3 points per $ at major supermarkets, and the very low requirement of 3 purchases to get the bonus points. Three Mars bars anyone? ;)

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

As far as I'm aware that's a grey area. I'd suggest you get something in writing from AMEX Australia.

Holding a regular AMEX definitely doesn't exclude you from DJ card as per Ts & Cs, but the other way is unclear.

The prime time to get this DJ card is right before you want to go on the 18Mth AMEX holiday.

Thanks fairbasa. I'm about 12mo into my 'holiday' so it'd be a shame to mess that up. I'll contact them and get it in writing. Good tip!
