I commented on here back in Sept 2005 about the opening hours of the Darwin lounge, nothing seems to have changed, the flight from Gove arrives Darwin at 2220 and the lounge opens at 2300, poor souls who are transiting to go south on the red eye at 0145 or the Plat. member who would like access the lounge on arrival from Gove, back in 2005 I rang the Airport Manager in Darwin about this but obviously they dont seem to value of the PAX arriving from Gove and that are transiting south.

All they need to do is open at 2230, surely this would not be a big impost on costs.

Has anyone else contacted QF about this, and does this sort of thing happen at any other airports?

I'd query how many people were coming out from Nhulunbuy and transitting south that have status - i.e enough to warrant opening the QP?

Whilst I live in DRW, I only ever (thus far!) fly out with QF to SYD/MEL/ASP, as such am unaffected - and prior to this thread, unaware - hence haven't done anything.

The flight originates from CNS and often has 10-20 plats on it, most of them are FIFO into DRW though.

I flew from Darwin to Perth via KNX on QF codeshares (with AirNorth) on Saturday but alas the Qantas Club was closed - but I would have probably been the only person using it at the time so I can understand that. But for an $850 one way flight something would be nice...

If flying jetstar out of Darwin they deliberately close the lounge so that jetstar pax (plats etc) cannot have lounge access.

I've used the lounge before on the red eye JQ flights, however I think the QF flight was also operating that night.

Lounge is only open at set times according to QF Club Website:

05:00 to 07:00
11:00 to 15:00
18:30 to 20:00
23:00 to 01:30 when QF829 is operating

Guess it's a "Darwin" thing. Nothing ever seems to be open when it should up there :) (Yes, I'm a local Darwin person too)

Welcome to AFF Ben_F! Frustrating if you are flying JQ outside those hours.

They had wedges just out of the oven last time I was there for an early afternoon flight to ASP. Very om nom nom; made the staffer laugh when I said "Ohhhhhh Wedges!!!!!". There was much joy, as it was a cough load better than those pastry things they do at night.

I'm in love with the Wedges, just wished they realised that alcohol needs to start being served at 10am instead of at midday in Darwin :D

Glad you like the wedges. They're certainly a favourite. I'll pass on your comments to the team there. :)

A voucher at the least would make sense.

Flying from ZQN as a QP member I received a ~NZD$50 voucher once, as for whatever reason I couldn't use the AirNZ lounge on that occasion, a while ago though. I'm sure they might see the value in opening the lounge if they started printing vouchers though.

Been through Darwin quite a few times - I am amazed at the 'bun fight' when the lounge opens. People are jockeying for position to make sure they can get in and get a seat when the doors open! Not a pretty sight! (me included )
