Damn,

It took me 3 months to get this card earlier this year and I'm only going to get 6 months use out of it until it goes. Transfers have to done in doses of 1000 points right? quote]

Does this mean if I have 1555 points I can only transfer 1000 of them?
I would have thought it would be minimum of 1000. Anyone know for sure?

No, you need a minimum of 3600 points before they will allow ANY transfers to QFF points. If you have the minimum 3600 you can convert any amount in multiples of 500 points. But if you only have 1555 points, then you're out of luck.

Thanks beardoc, I have more than 3600 points (just used 1555 as an example) but now I will have to set up a spreadsheet to get points close to multiples of 500.

Shame the bank didn't allow all remaining points to be transferred, good customer relations and surely low cost to them.

I was considering staying on because of the low annual fee, but the "point pinching" of existing points really annoys me. Now I think I'll keep looking for an alternative.

I applied for a ANZ Gold Visa last Thursday shortly after I received the letter from CBA about the changes to the Ezy Card, and the ANZ card arrived in the mail today so activated it and cancelled the Ezy Mastercard.

I am not worried about 2500 cap on the points with the ANZ card because I only use this as a back up when Amex is not accepted. I believe it is slighter dearer than other cards with the $95 pa plus the $55 rewards program fee, but I had this card previously and was happy, plus they also gave me 10K points as they classified me as a new card holder, which is even better.

I notice everyone refers to 8 Oct as D-Day however in my letter it says
You can earn and redeem your points under the Ezy Rewards program until 6 October 2006.

Just got my Ezy Mastercard letter too :-(

So, what is the best remaining card for a low-medium spend person ($3000 per month or so)? The Citibank Silver card mentioned in this thread sounds pretty good - any others?

Cheers,
Matt

Are there any Visa or Mastercards out there with NO points cap and at least a 1:1 for FF points?

What's the last realistic points earning date?

OK, so I've got to earn points, get them credited to my points balance, and get them transferred by the 6th of October.

I haven't really figured out the earning/transfer cycle - though I've got a feeling that the points are available to transfer approximately 2 days after the statement date.

Does anyone have better knowledge of when the Ezy Mastercard points earned during a statement cycle are available to transfer to QF? I don't want to transfer early, and end up with < 3,600 points approaching Oct 6th.

Plus, I don't want to panic and try to change Direct Debits occuring in early Sept if I'll get those points.

I doubt you will be able to claim the points earned between the end of your statement day and the 6th October.

My statement is issued on the 20th of each month, so I assume I will be able to transfer the points for the statement ending 20th Septemeber on the 22nd September.

Then the points I earn from 22nd Septemebr to 6th October will end up being changed to Commonwealth Bank points.

I will try calling on the 6th, but I reckon I wil have a points balance of 0, as the points do not get credited until about 2 days after the statement date.

My statement date is also 20th month so I phoned the rewards centre yesterday to find out if points earned on spend after 20th September will be available to transfer to Qantas ff before the 6th Oct.

I was told that points "will be uploaded before the transition" however the date was unknown. I was put on hold for a while and then told someone will phone me back. At least they are checking, I prefer that to an off the cuff response that turns out to be wrong. Will post as soon as I hear from them.

Possibly they just haven't thought this through, and are now being inundated with calls :)

I just heard back from the rewards centre. The lady I spoke to said this information came from 2 different managers so I can only trust it is correct.

It seems my next statement date is actually 19th September. I can transfer earned points up to 19th Sept to QF ff under the current award provisions i.e. 1:1. HOWEVER for purchases made after the 19th the points will be according to the commonwealth award system i.e. 2:1.

I did say that the letter saying "earn and redeem your points under the Ezy Rewards Program until 6 October" was going to cause many people to think they could continue earning points under current rules and value until then.

I was told that the terms and conditions state that points are transferred once a month so the date will depend on each customers statement date.

Thanks for the follow up. So the message seems clear - you'll be able to transfer points earned up to your last statement date before Oct 6, provided you allow a few days for the transfers, then you lose half.

So, the D-Day is probably October 1. Work out what your last statement date is prior to Oct 1, and start spending your non-Amex dollars on your brand new CitiBank silver card from then on ;). Double check your points on October 4, and transfer away. Cancel your card on the 6th (if you don't need it as a backup), and don't be surprised when the person on the end of the line knows why you're cancelling.

Agree entirely, my cycle date is the 7th or the 8th I was told, so given that I am currently just under the 3,600 threshold looks like i need to spend some cash prior to 07/08 September. Again, no really clarity, the guy i spoke to (Indian) was talking about 01 Oct as the transistion. Regardless, looks like that I need to spend up.

I wasn't aware you had a cycle date!

Buy some AFL tickets. Sun 3rd September is OK for me if you are still going. See if you can get the stand we were in last time.

I can't see why you would want to wait until after your statement cycle to make decisions on when the transfer points from ezy to QF etc especially if you are considering changing cards in any event. Why not cancel your ezy card the day before your statement date, pay the statement when you receive it and then transfer all available points at that time, but remember you can only transfer in lots of 500 so monitor the points on your last statement to coincide with the 500 transfer rate. Remember also to apply for a backup visa/mastercard card etc before you cancel the ezy.

I just rang up to cancel my Ezy Mastercard, and mentioned that I was disappointed that they had changed the card six months after I paid my annual fee. The customer service operator was originally resistant, but when I persisted (not terribly strongly either, just more assertive), he went to his supervisor and came back with a refund of $20 on the card fee.

If you only recently paid your annual fee on your Ezy card, then you might want to consider asking for a part refund. It can't hurt!

If you change to a different card of the Commonwealth Bank (but probably excluding the default one they change you to), then the bank automatically credits the new card with a pro-rata refund of your old annual fee before charging you your new annual fee.

So if you tell the CBA to transfer your woolworths card to the Platinum Mastercard or Visa, you will receive a pro-rata credit anyway.
