I am in the process of searching Expert Flyer for flights to use on my Circle Asia Biz Fare.

Why is it that JAL do not have D class fares for domestic flights in Japan?

I'm searching for Tokyo to Saporro and they only have J or Y.

Does this mean I have to travel Y even though I am paying for Business in D??

thanks

JAL does not have F or D classes for domestic flights - only J, and neither is this "business class". More like a glorified Y with a little extra pitch but no food/ drinks. You can upgrade from the airport to "J class" for only 1000yen or Aud$11. If you want a "true" business class experience into Sapporo, try HKG-CTS with Cathay. ANA is the more "plush" domestic carrier with an upgrade to "J" costing 5,000yen or around Aud$55, which includes better seat, a bento box during meal times and beer. IIRC yes, you will be booked into Y eventhough you have a D ticket. Check the T&C and most probably there's a provision noting Japan domestic exclusions...

From ExpertFlyer for 30/09/07
Code:
BOOKING CODES -

                                FIRST BUSINESS ECONOMY

AY/BA/CX/QF/JL/EG/JO A D L

JL DOMESTIC FLIGHTS J J H
 -TO/FROM NRT-

JL/NU/JC DOMESTIC FLIGHTS J J Y
-ALL OTHER DOMESTIC POINTS-

NOTE - WHEN THE CLASS OF SERVICE FOR THE FARE IS NOT OFFERED
BOOK IN THE NEXT LOWER CLASS OF SERVICE USING THE BOOKING CLASSES ABOVE.

So for TYO / SPK It's J for First/Business & H for WHY.

Circle Asia And Southwest Pacific Explorer Fares

For a reference, when looking these fares up I noted the following fare code format.

xASnn

where x is A, D or L &
nn is 13 to 17.

e.g. DAS13 is a Business class "Circle Asia & SWP" fare for a routing of up to 13000 miles.

Hi serfty, note however there's still no First/ Business "product" on JL domestic, only JAL's "J Class"...

I have booked my circle asia fare from Qantas Telephone sales today.

Here's what i have got:

Tokyo Haneda to Osaka KIX on JAL Business Class J
KIX to ICN (Seoul) on JAL Business Class J

QF still booked J class tickets... any thoughts??? It does say I am booked in business class.

I should get biz pts and SC for QFF right???

What serfty is referring to is that if you buy a first class or business class fare on Circle Asia & SWP (and presumably also xONEx), a domestic Japan flight on JL will book into J class (subject to availability of course and if no availability then H class). When buying an economy class fare it books into H class.

This is similar to DONEx's booking into A class for 2-class domestic USA flights on AA.

KIX-ICN is international so no question it is business class.
HND-KIX is domestic. As long as J is deemed by QFF to be a business class booking class (AFAIK it is) then you will earn business class status credits and points earning.

According to the above (from Expert Flyer) it should have been booked into D class, not J.

Possibly there is still some confusion around with the introduction on JAL to oneworld added to by this new xASnn product.

Either way you get full Business Class points and SC's.

Look here: Airline Earning Table (scroll down to JAL entry)

I checked the seat map on expert flyer for my JAL flights.

For the domestic flight - J class starts at Row 81 and is 3x4x3??? It looks like a 747 economy?? Is this possible on a 767 aircraft???

Something weird going on???

81 rows of 3x4x3 on a 767 sounds about right for Japanese domestic flights  .

The JAL website is shocking. I can't find anything i want on it. Seat maps are non-existent!

Does anyone know the baggage restrictions for JAL domestic and JAL international?

Any hotels to recommend in Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul?

I'm thinking about Hilton Tokyo and Hilton Osaka. Not sure about Seoul.

thanks

NM, i hope your joking ;)
JAL do fly a lot of 747's domestic, there is no way you could do 3-4-3 on a 767, but i know one of the other JP domestics do put 2-4-2 on a 767 instead of the 2-3-2 we are used too.

Hmm, has anyone ever known me to be less than serious?

Someone once said that the only thing serious about me is my condition  .
