CX The Wing Champagne Lounge

Still disgusting regardless of how you look at it. Have you ever sat at the lunch/dinner table watching/listening to someone eat with their mouth open and the food chewed from one side of the mouth to the other. It is truly a disgusting experience.

By the way some cultures think it is OK to mistreat women. Should I find that acceptable?

Slurping some noodles in Hong Kong
vs
Other random points which have no relevance to the original topic.....

If I couldn't move somewhere else (perhaps the lounge is full) then I'd probably fart as it's the least aggressive ;)

The answer is simple - take a bottle of champagne and adjourn to a cabana...no pesky humanity to bother you there!

BTW I use The Wing monthly and I've never seen any behaviour like that before - its an anomaly, the funny part is they're probably a mainlander who paid for F and you're in Y and in the lounge on your status ;)

Ah. People and their disgusting eating/chewing habits and lack of respect for those around them.

Some animals take greater care when they are eating.

And some don't... how do we know which ones are correct?

I'm in a similar position to the OP. I'm in the champagne bar enjoying a lovely bowl of noodles and the person opposite me is slurping Champagne and behaving like a minor member of the Luxembourg royalty.

I'm just not sure how to handle the situation, should I ask the staff to bring the guillotine?

:p

You really should show no consideration to other cultural behavior and just claim it is downright rude.

Frankly TH they should be sharing the slurpy goodness with you!

get a life... if u r in hkg do what the hkg / china pple do or get the hell out of thr F lounge ( which isint that great anyway...)

Well, I'm actually in J, and he was in J as well (BP on the table :) )

Oh, please, get some grammar, spelling and basic sentence construction!

I was in a Champagne Bar - not a back street of Kowloon.

The guy had a whole lounge, and a restaurant to slurp his noodles - he wasn't drinking any Champagne.

And if you don't think that the CX The Wing Flounge "isn't that great" .... then you and I are on different planets.

I'm starting to think your problem with him is that he wasn't drinking Champagne

When westerners take over china, you'll be able to dictate what is polite and what is not there.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be the other way around. So you might want to get used to it.

Airports are basically 'no mans land' between immigration and the departure gate, so, it's not like the OP was in China, they were in an airport (which happens to be located in China, excluding the departure area).

There's nothing wrong with being polite when travelling, which may mean you need to suspend slurping based activities. Just my opinion of course. Feel free to slurp and continue to receive dirty looks from fellow travellers:)

I think the point is, for the other man, slurping is polite. Actually, to him, not slurping is actually an insult.

Well, yes. Although the OP was somewhat tongue in cheek, you have identified the main issue for me on the day, which others have strangely missed in their haste to take cultural offence #.

As you can see from Serfty's pic, the Champagne Lounge is an elegant, discrete area within a nice Flounge, set up for the drinking and appreciation of Champagne. There's also a bar, a library area and general lounge seating, with tables.

A couple of us were enjoying the Champagne. One chap not drinking Champagne but eating his noodles. Noisily. If he was having a Moet at the same time, well, maybe OK. He wasn't.

He could have sat anywhere else in the lounge - including the Haven restaurant and enjoyed his noodles. He would have been closer to the chef, who might have then heard his slurping and appreciated it. Win-win.

# Oh, and those who felt the need to lecture me about customs in PRC and Hong Kong (I think this was about my 15th trip here?). Have a look back over the thread. Did I actually mention the ethnicity of the person concerned?

"3) Walk over to him, break wind, and walk off?"

A good crop dusting is always rewarding when it works.

It's not that great. It is just another lounge.

Well, maybe you are right. The QP at HBA is much the same as The Wing, as is any lounge in the USA. Ive certainly had better party pies at the QP dom J lounge in SYD. And better hot dogs in the Koru Club at MEL.

Sigh. We are spoiled aren't we? Champagne, fine dining with a la carte options, cabanas as big as a living room.... Every where we go, from Port Hedland to CGD and every lounge in between.
