But I specifically said "AA lounge access" so as to cover that specific situation. I have not seen any AA Lounges at airports in Australia. You don't get access on "Domestic" North American itineries. You do get access on domestic flights elsewhere ( e.g. QP access in Australia is permitted )
Personally, I would say that AA Platinum is more useful overall since the reward rates on AA are so much better
