CX QF WP treatment

The problem with CX now is that they don't let you change your FFP after booking, you can change it once when physically checking in at the airport, and to use status benefits you must have the status FFP in the booking.

If you fly CX particularly in economy with any regularity you would be better off crediting them to other oneworld programs. For at least 10 years it's made more sense for me to only credit QF flights to QF and all other flights elsewhere - previously CX and BA but since BA destroyed its program I have moved to AY.

In the past if you had QF status there was no issue with crediting a CX Y flight to BA or CX and then flashing your QF WP card for lounge access etc, but now you are forced to credit to CX.

Looking at all my past CX economy flights, the most common booking classes are L, M, Q, S, V.
Q,S,V earn nothing on QF.
Q,S earn 25% on BA.
L,M,V earn 50% on AY which is worth a lot more to me than the pittance you get from QF.

K also gets 50% on AY but slightly higher on QF. Usually taking the avios is still better. But to get up to class K, the fares are already quite expensive and you'd only really choose them if you are stuck with particular dates.

I don't think I've ever bought a ticket in CX Y,E,B,H, sometimes it would be cheaper to buy two non-refundable tickets than one of those.

I have always found CX best at recognising QF WP. Always made so welcome and on a number of times (never with QF) have been upgraded to first class (from business) on international routes (even had to knock a couple back as I was travelling with my wife). One of my top 3 airlines to travel

As QF WP flying CX recently - 4 flights over Xmas/NY flying PER-HKG-TPE return with my partner - I was greeted personally once on the HKG-TPE leg and offered a bottle of water during boarding. On all other flights no acknowledgement was ever made of my status. We were in Y - I have no expectations.
Just adding my 2 cents..

I’m usually in economy on CX , but I have to say since I got platinum last July, every CX flight I’ve had since then, approximately a dozen or so, the crew have greeted me and except for once there are slippers and a water bottle on my seat.

The funny thing is that if you assume no DSC, the earning is still better on a CX J ticket to (most of) Japan from Australia compared to flying Qantas. Not to mention it's usually a fair bit cheaper. 60 + 80 > 120.
From Perth it’s even better - we earn full rates to hkg in J as qf doesn’t fly this route so there’s no penalty.

Data point: CX710 (SIN - HKG), seat 59A (exit row) on A330-300, QF Gold. ISM came to say hi and welcome me just before take-off, and asked whether I wanted a Evian bottle. Difference to being a QF WP is that the bottle would already be there šŸ˜†.

Happy as Larry with the CX service.

It seems to me given the many other data points being posted, the treatment the op is receiving is most likely not due to his QF status and maybe another factor. Profession, Ethnicity other?

I think one factor is how often you fly with CX within the year. As reported back in December, I was upgraded from Y to J on HKG to HAN and was being told as a recognition for my 32 flights with CX this year (all in Y).

It's certainly due to his status, but could additionally be due to some internal scoring with CX.

We don't know how many other oneworld emeralds were on that flight, nor do we know if they were treated in the same way as the OP. I also can't find any mention that the OP gets treated like this on every flight. Consider how the cabin crew's actions may differ when there are 30-40 OWE in the Y cabin versus 3 or 4 OWE.

Profession - do you really think someone with a doctor title and no status in Y is going to get any special treatment (unless they are a medical doctor whose services are unfortunately needed during an onboard emergency - I know of one case where a doctor originally in Y was invited to F for the rest of the flight in order to recuperate after a stressful incident).

Ethnicity - the OP says Hong Kong is his home town, which is also the case for roughly half or more of every CX flight.

I have never been QF WP, but I have been BA Gold in the past. I did get special treatment like this on one CX Y flight, and sometimes they would serve me the meal ahead of everyone else, but most of the time it was just a personal greeting before takeoff and nothing else. One time, the guy just held up the pax manifest and walked up and down the aisles saying "hello" to random people (likely status holders) without even stopping.
