MEL-HKG-CAN in J return. CAN-HKG-KUL in Y return.
MEL-HKG and HKG-CAN ISMs were extremely jovial and lovely to have a conversation with. Meal service first and a handwritten note. The HKG-CAN route is heavily delayed, as we would find out later.
This first flight was delayed 3hr after pushback due to the a typhoon closing CAN arrivals. Lovely and attentive service from the ISM made the time pass relatively quick.
On our CAN-KUL trip in Y, I was upgraded to J at check-in. 2 companions on my PNR, and my partner on a linked PNR were all upgraded at gate. I believe this was due to an internal 330 swap to the ex-KA variant with 18 more J seats. Unfortunately we missed our connecting flight to KUL by 20 mins. Agents were waiting on departure, 3 of us received a 75HKD meal voucher while as I had lounge access there was none for me.
Rebooked on last flight of the day to KUL, unfortunately lost our seat assignments as it was now a 321neo, but CX had put the four of us all on exit row. Landed 5hrs late.
The rest of the Y flights were lovely, upon boarding only my seat would have a pillow, blanket and water waiting for me. On one of these flights I was verry impressed that the Y FA in my section addressed me by name and gave us quite the attentive service.
On the KUL-HKG flight my partner lost her phone on the flight, after a short phone call the lounge staff in The Pier were able to locate it and we got it back within 40 mins of disembarking.
There was another 330 variant change for CAN-HKG in J, we got an email that myself and the 2 others on my PNR had been moved to the ex-KA regional "F" J seats. I had been trying to select them at check in but I believe these are blocked out for CX Diamond members. Again, a water bottle was in the in-seat headphone cabinet for me while my companions had to wait for them to be handed out.
HKG-MEL in Aria was amazing, very hospitable ISM who recommended that I get both the appetisers (which I accepted) and a second main (which I was not confident that I could finish). No handwritten note this time,
Overall QF WP in CX in both Y and J is a great experience, although sometimes quite formulaic. Having been to The Pier First about 5 times in 2 weeks I have to say the relaxed environment and food is really supurb, but we did get a bit tired of it after a bit.
The one downside was the check-in agent in CAN neglected to attach the CX First bag tag on 2 out of our 9 checked bags. We had to wait 30mins longer at MEL which was slightly not as optimal but overall a good and polished experience with CX as we have come to expect.
