CX & QF lounges in HKG - a review (02/12)

Interesting thoughts on the HKG lounges.

I really do not mind any of them although I do not like having waiter service when it comes to drinks. I would rather a self serve fridge or at least to be able to go to the bar and walk away from the bar with a drink in hand.

The Cabin, yesterday. Reminiscent of Pitt St.

QF first is often closed: it only opens shortly before flights and there are no signs to say whether it is open or closed ntil you reach the door, quite a walk from the main concourse. Cx first lounges are lovely, one of hte reason I prefer to transit via HGK when en route to UK & Europe

yes its been very busy the last few times Ive been through in the afternoon - ive been sticking to the wing or the pier, hopefully it calms down once the wing F lounge reopens

I also transit HKG a lot and loves the CX lounges. QF F lounge is okay but the two older ladies manning the counters did not seem to be responsible for anything other than flight announcement and checking entry eligibility. The wonton noodles at cX lounge are really great.

Rono, were you on a QF flight number for the CX service to LHR? Reading that eligibility without the caveats, am I correct in thinking provided you had booked a QF number, access should have been granted?

Apologies that I did not initially reply, I was recovering from a serious spine operation which put me seriously behind on the work front. RE your question, the leg from HK to London was Cathay - not Qantas although it was Qantas that generated the ticket to suit code sharing I suppose. What I found odd was that I have been a QC member for almost 20 years, everyone at Qantas here in Australia said I would have no problems using the HK lounge. Moreover I was told in HK that being a paid up member of QC would not get me in but that a complimentary guest card would. I normally give these away, sometimes here on this website.

regards & apologies once again

Apparently QF J lounge has the wonton noodles too but its not advertised anywhere. You just have to ask a waiter/waitress to bring you some.

I won't bore you with the details but I am about to book a Qantas ticket economy class Brisbane- Singapore- Heathrow then Heathrow Hong Kong Melb Brisbane.
Its not the outward leg that worries me but the return leg via Hong Kong. I have been a Qantas Club member since 1993. Awhile ago I arrived at Hong Kong airport at 5am and tried to enter the Qantas Club to freshen up before hopping on the London leg with the codeshare Cathay flight. I was refused admission to the Qantas Lounge as my onward leg boarding pass was with Cathay and not Qantas through whom I had made the entire booking. Seems that if I had had a complimentary Qantas Club Pass I would have been allowed in!!

My question is that when I do my trip in May ie Qantas ticket economy class Brisbane- Singapore- Heathrow then Heathrow Hong Kong Melb Brisbane. Will I have any problems accessing the Qantas Club?

Cheers

Paul R Ronis

I asume they meant if you had a Lounge Pass such as one receives from becoming a Silver QFF you could have entered.

QClub membership would only get you in if you were on a QF flight number (being impossible on a CX flight between HKG-LHR I believe as the only QF codeshares would be on BA), even though QF sold you the CX flight unfortunately it makes no difference :(

I still have a problem with this however when I am paying annual fees to be a member of the Qantas Club, only to be told that I couldn't get into the Qantas Club - but that if I had a complimentary pass, I would have been allowed in??

I have ordered the wonton noodles at both the QF J (underground) and F lounges at HKG.

The Qantas Club allows access to you when flying on Qantas Flights, the complimentary pass has different access rules as it is issued seperately by Qantas Frequent Flyer I believe.

Any news on the wing F reopening?

Flew with Cathay from Manila to New York and return. The wing F re-opened about 3 days before we went through (we were there on the 12th Feb). Very nice indeed, scored a cabana room on both occasions. Only one type of champagne though (Moet) and food was great.
