I know WPs have historically had a pretty good record for op ups on CX, but I'm wondering if this has changed recently?

Anyone had any recent experiences?

If fewer people are travelling then there are probably less op ups, but if more people are travelling down the back, then perhaps there are more.

I'm looking at HKG-SIN or HKG-KUL soon, so interested to work out whether I have any chance of an op up... 12 months ago I would have thought the odds were pretty good.

I think near automatic upgrades for Oneworld Emeralds on CX virtually disappeared a couple of years ago when they altered their internal priorities. I'd be interested to know too if they have recently returned though I'd be a bit surprised. Although we are now seeing a few CX specials "down the back" they have generally been fairly univentive in tackling the problems the GFC must be causing them.

I am 2 for 2 OPUPS J->F on CX. I am 0 for 3 Y->J.

Over the last year on CX have had a good run. Upgraded to business from an award flight booked in economy using QF frequent flyer points from BNE to HKG. The flight was way overbooked.

Upgraded from HKG to BKK on booked economy fare. Overbooking again in my favour. I think it pays to get there early from what the check in staff said.

Happy little vegemite here. :)

On CX713 today BKK-SIN only 8 pax in J,Y looked about 50%.No need to op up anyone.

Over the last 24 mths, my op ups to J with CX have been well over 50% and that's from discounted whY.:mrgreen:......maybe its because I fly with them every month? But I credit to QFF.......do they still keep a record on how much you fly with them when you credit mileage to QFF?

I do feel that CX is a real player in the Oneworld team, recognising other airlines' status level as near as to their own.

Of course it pays to choose flights that tends to be fairly full but then again, I have op ups when whY is 60%-70% full. Go figure:shock:......but not complaining!

CX has very much tightened up their upgrade policy in recent time. They will now only upgrade if operationally required, and then they have a specific policy around who gets priority for the upgrades.

Well CX op ups do still exist. I was recently on a KA flight (but on a CX metal) from HKG-PVG over Easter and was surprisingly op up at the gate. My travelling companion who holds MP silver was also upgraded.

We were both travelling on discount economy V tickets.

On the return leg, she was upgraded at the check-in counter and I had assume I missed out. But again, at the gate I was told I had be upgraded as well.

Most pleased. In all my years with QF, I have not been upgraded at all (granted, I am always buying Red e-deals tix) and when flying CX, I get op up twice !!

I certainly was not expecting it to happen but when it does, it does feel good. The flight to PVG was on a CX 777-300 with those new herringbone seats but the flight back to HKG was on an Airbus 321 with regular J seats.

Just my two cents worth.
