Better than Airline PJs?

On my last couple of trips both my QF and CX PJ sets have finally done their dash, and on the last flight I was swimming in the EK XXL PJs. Which got me thinking about my broader options. Had a quick look in at Peter Alexander the other day, but all of their pyjamas are so garish its not particularly appealing.

Considering going with some light track pants from Uniqlo with a loose-ish fitting sports jumper. Both of which allow me to have a reasonable set of emergency clothes on the ground in case of all too frequent luggage issues.

Anyone else rolling their own these days?

Pre-comp PJs, I used to pack tracky daks, rugby style long sleeve top and explorer socks.

Then airlines progressively introduced super heated cabins, so if I know in advance that there’s no comp PJs, I pack a T-sheet and/or long sleeve T plus recycled airline PJ pants.

I still pack explorers socks!

I've always taken my own pj's, light weight trakky dacks and long sleeve t-shirt. As I only get into J on a points upgrade (about 50% success rate), the times I'm down the back I can still change into my pjamas, as I hate sleeping in my clothes.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They are usually available on eBay if airline thinks you are not worthy for a “free” one
Yeah. I should be getting some on the next run (so long as I dont get bumped again with a flight change). But they are still fairly average IMO, and I'm thinking it might just be nicer to have a dedicated set to take

Better than airline...well, anything from most lingerie stores, I guess. I carried a track suit when paxing. Warmer and much more comfortable than most airline offerings.

*Anything*? Not sure I want to see some burly bloke heading to the loo in a Teddy… 😳

In the later half of 2019 I started to go down the BYO option using the light weight i.e. not flannel PA pants and any old tee shirt. I find most aircraft cabin temperatures to warm for my liking and I prefer to be comfortable and do not really care if the PA option looks like PJs but that is just me.

That been said if you prefer airline PJ options what size do you need and you can send via PM if you do not want to post the detail. I have more sets of airline PJs than I will most likely never use, at last count over 30 sets new and unused. I have given away 30+ sets of airline PJs on this site and then there are the others that have been given to friends, family, charity etc. If I have the size that fits you I am more than happy to send you a set or 2.

BYO PJs def way to go - $10 V neck T-shirt from Rivers + $10 PJ pants from KMart + SQ slippers carried forward from previous flt and you are good to go - bring home the airline supplied PJs from your flts and deliver into the City Mission for those who are forced to sleep rough does the trick (The Ette actually delivered 30 sets into them today as a matter of fact)

Invariably I find SQ cabins rather warm so only light clothes reqd - their sleeper suits are way too hot for me to wear - here is 1 set I had to attack with assistance of scissors supplied by Cabin Crew some years back when I inadvertently packe my BYO PJs into checked baggage before return flt home from Beijing 👍 FA5761CD-19D6-4F1D-8907-78C6FAF58A82.jpeg
Cut off the sleeves and remove gusset inside neckline to let a bit of air in and we are good to go

Still can’t work out how that nancy boy Honey Badger dude got the Tradies gig ahead of me?

I have never worked out why the Asian carriers like button up or zip up PJ tops. Most of these are to heavy weight and warm for my liking, the Eva sets have lightweight and cool looking pants.IMG_4627.jpeg

I always pack a T shirt for flts with PJ's supplied - too hot in those long-sleeved tops, no air around the neck. And, unlike some, I doubt I'd ever have the front to ask the hostie for some scissors and hack the arms off the supplied kit.

And these days, with the ever-present chance of losing yr checked bag, it seems a no-brainer to tuck at least one change of gear in the carry-on..

In theory, my latest TR is PJ-themed, and yes there were QF pyjamas offered on the AY wet-lease to SIN. Delivered just as I stretched out flat and closed my eyes.

I wore them on the two flights coming back. I was offered another pair SIN-MEL but I indicated I already had some, and she said I could put them up on eBay. I still declined.

I've got a few sets kicking around, including EK F. I find them all to be pretty flimsy, not up to repeated washing, and not up to the job as regular pyjamas. In Canberra, my winter PJs are pretty thick LLBean trackie dacks with a zip and up top I wear a merino undershirt (long or short sleeves according to season) with maybe another layer on for winter.

I think, if I can find room in my carryon, I'll bring my own for long-haul from now on. As pointed out above, having a change of clothes in the carry-on is a good strategy. I usually have a spray jacket and some extra socks and undies, plus a cut-down toilet bag.

Besides, the airline-supplied PJs may not be the best size fit and they all have airline branding on which may send mixed messages depending on my choice of carrier.

I'm certainly not a fan of the Qantas offerings, for the reasons you give above. I take a cotton t-shirt and long pyjama bottoms for the flights to change into, even when I'm back in Y - I hate sleeping in my clothes. I always carry enough t-shirts/jocks/socks to last three days in my carry on, in case my main bag goes missing, so I can carry on regardless.
