Recently flew CX J CGK-HKG-LHR (and will be returning MAD-HKG-DPS). At the time of booking, all sectors were lie flat seats but a few weeks out CX798 (CGK-HKG) was subbed for what I assume was an ex Cathay Dragon 777 with “Regional“ business seats. Those are shell seats with about the same recline as a domestic QF/VA 737 seat. Even though it’s a relatively short flight flight, it was pretty coughpy for the red eye midnight departure out CGK.

What are the chances of getting some sort of compensation? (I suspect the answer is “Two chances”…😔). I’m not thinking to go as far as that couple who successfully(!) sued EK for their subpar experience…

Touchwood, the HKG-DPS is holding out as full lie flat but it’s a day flight.

dragonair didn’t have 777s, only 320/321s and a330s. So it would have been a regional variant of cathay’s.

You could always write in to them and ask!

Oh, didn’t realise that mainline CX had that product and I suspect many others don’t - which kind of makes it worse.

Precovid, we were rebooked on KA after QF pulled out of PEK and I knew the flight from HKG was 2-2-2, so I assume it was that.

Yeah, I might do that *after* we complete this trip.

SYD+1 got the post flight survey to complete - alas, I got the HKG-LHR sector survey - which was actually very good.

You could ask them, but did everything else to plan for the flight? I don't think anything will be offered.
Not sure what you mean but, no not expecting anything - although our bags were first out on the carousel at LHR…

Neither remaining flights have “First”, so no surprise Op Ups coming…

The CX regional 777s had 42 J class in a 2-3-2 configuration. Operated lots of routes to seoul and jakarta. The DPS route consistently has flat beds on services advertised as such, so you should be ok. I’ve done it several times and never had a sub.

As an aside, I’m going to add a short case study to the thread about cheap Euro flights from Oz re tips/traps on the repositioning option - which is still currently the way to go - if you have the time and inclination.

That would be good!

i usually try to pick somewhere like Bali or Thailand, so i can have a couple days buffer before/after the euro trip.
