To the contrary. Vaccination is not all about the individual. It's your small commitment to protect others in the society you live in.

Once everyone has had access to be vaccinated, then the unvaccinated can fly private at their cost. If they can't make the small contribution to society of rolling up the sleeve, they should not be on any form of shared public transport.

(Obviously with exemptions for the tiny number of people who genuinely cannot be vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons)

I'm with you offshore171. The very vast majority of our population is over the COVID situation here in Australia and the quicker we can overcome it, the better.

Nothing wrong with people sticking to their anti-vax views ... however, they need to appreciate their access to many things will remain limited.

I don't like to do it, but part of me is also fed up with people using the freedoms they have to just believe anything they want and then expect society to accomodate them. By all means if they want to go down the path of believing whatever they want despite expert advice saying otherwise, then I'm fine with that, but that doesn't mean no consequences. We know smoking is bad and we effectively have ostracised them in society, but their actions are only dangerous to others when they are smoking, so it doesn't look as bad. I don't see antivaxxers as any different, just less obvious and more stigmatised.

We have all sorts of standards of behaviour in society. I don't see how this one is particularly onerous given this virus has destroyed so much of people's livelihoods over the past 2 years. Frankly I'd be more inclined to give a pass on other poor behaviours as long as the purportrators are fully vaxed.

They should also expect to contribute serious cash towards their medical system that will inevitably have to support them because of their choice and face other financial disincentives/penalties as a consequence.

No decision we make comes without consequence and this is a free decision but is not free of consequences.

I assume you make the same case for those that have serious illness from taking the vaccine, or smokers, or those that drink too much, or motorcyclists?

We're heading towards mass immunity anyway without restricting civil liberties and creating a two class society.

Can we ask the same contributions from those that choose to smoke or those that become obese due to non-medical causes? Massive can of worms. I say this as someone with a BMI slightly higher than 25!

Honestly as a medical professional the antivax is just getting tiresome. It is not easy to day in, day out, try and engage with people who genuinely believe they have sufficient understanding of the underlying concepts, and yet have virtually no understanding of the underlying concepts, no trust, no nothing. And as soon as you try and correct them on a basic level, you’re being paid off by the TGA or the drug companies or whatever

e.g, a number of people have told me AZ is no good because it contains polyethylene glycol (fact check- - AZ does not contain PEG, Pfizer does however). That Novavax is better as it has been around for 10 years and Ebola vaccines have used the same technology (- Ebola vaccines are similar to AZ and J&J), that AZ contains chimpanzee DNA (- no, it’s a chimpanzee adenovirus. It’s no more chimpanzee DNA than saying influenza contains human DNA ie completely incorrect)

Agree - our frontline healthcare workers are losing their minds trying to explain it to these people …. I wouldn’t have the patience so lucky I work behind the scenes
