Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

I think the decanter now only comes out for school holidays so I guess Easter counts.
It's currently school holidays in NSW (and VIC?) so right on time, and happens to coincide with Easter (so a bit of a double whammy on the lounge).

Saw that they currently have a special decanter offering of St Henri 2002 in MEL. Must be an Easter weekend thing.
Anyone going through SYD who can report back?

Nothing in the SYD decanter at lunchtime yesterday

The missing attachments for the last post.
Snap - that's always my exact order at the SYD FLounge too! I was v disappointed to see the earlier post of the new SYD menu sans omelettes. I'll be there on Monday morning and will hope to be surprised by an update... or have to try something new...

I haven’t but I will never comment negatively on either F lounge again.

This was served in JAL F lounge in Tokyo. Yep. Little meat and - served in a plastic styrofoam plate. Fortunately it tasted great but needed two and still hungry. And I don’t eat much.

Was that how they served your QR code order from your table? How un-Japanese who take such great pride in how their food is presented. Hope they weren't a plastic spoon and fork in the wrappers.

I think you may have accidentally ordered a kids portion or a dietary version (vego, halal, etc)

The JAL curry at both HND and NRT F is always presented like this:

Edit: yep, it's a halal curry...

Yes halal. Had to order on the app and that’s all I could see. But that’s no reason for minute chicken shreds.

Agree with you on the portion size/quality - can only assume that's a cost related decision given halal chicken is 2-3x the price in Japan.

I do think it reasonably explains the plastic serving tray and cutlery though. The meal would've been cooked in an offsite kitchen, frozen, and reheated at the F lounge. I can't imagine JAL has the demand or facilities to maintain halal and non-halal cutlery sets.

It'd be very surprising if they ran out of the regular "JAL Special Beef Original" curry. It's the signature dish in the Sakura (J) Lounge and pretty much the only substantial meal offering there.

Anyway, back on topic, I wonder if the QF F lounges have any halal offerings?

I'm going to go with "no".... in the sense that the suppliers of the food may be halal, but without that proof, it can't be claimed as halal. And I'm not certain QF is going to go through the process to get that certification.

Come to think of it, that raises an interesting side point. MH serves only halal food on board its flights. In SYD, they send their premium passengers to the Plaza Premium lounge, of which their catering features in at least another two lounges in SYD T1. I'm not entirely certain that their food is halal certified either.

If you were observing a diet that must be halal, without certification, you'd be basically a pescatarian. So thank goodness there's a couple of seafood dishes on the menu (in theory that would be OK, checking for the sides that go with it).
