Wow this thread has been quiet for a while. I'm looking at booking award tickets (for 2) for late Jan 2022 to the Seychelles on QR but can't seem to nail down the change and/or cancel fees. I've called AA and they were pretty unsure themselves.

I had thought they were currently waived until March 31st.

While these pages do not specifically mention AAdvantage award tickets, it does refer to "all".

Of course, there is this:

Eliminating award travel fees

Redeeming AAdvantage® miles should feel rewarding. That’s why we’re eliminating service fees for new award tickets issued by Reservations starting November 11, 2020. Whether you prefer to book award travel on aa.com, through the American Airlines app, or by calling Reservations, we’re here for you and ready to help.

Booking flight and upgrade awards

We’re committed to offering flexibility when your plans change. Earlier this fall, we eliminated change fees on award travel within the U.S. and between the U.S. and several international destinations. Effective immediately, we’re eliminating award travel change fees to all remaining destinations. We’re also eliminating award reinstatement fees.

OK thanks - think I'll book and see what happens if I need to cancel (due to border closures / other Covid issues) - will hope for the best - even with AA's pre-Covid change fees it's not a show stopper. But after re-thinking it - will now look to book March 2022 instead just as an additional buffer . . . .
