I noticed on the flight back from ADL to SYD last night that the CSM had an ipad ap that showed a seat map highlighting pax status, which she used to do a meet and greet towards the end of the flight. It looked like a quick tap on the colour coded seat brought up the pax name, status and recent flight history. Maybe they have had this for a while and I haven't been paying attention, but I thought it was quite neat and could have some use personalising service on board.

I wonder if that is provided by qantas? I saw some apps of this nature in the USA which were available for purchase by cabin crew on their own dime.

I had an experience with this recently. I was boarding my flight to BKK (QF23) and was actually the first through the door. One of the senior FAs saw my name on the boarding pass, moved me to the side and said that they saw I had had a problem on a "recent flight" (his words) with a vegetarian meal and that I had been given the Captain's meal due to mine not being loaded. (BTW, I hadn't demanded anything, but the CSM had brought it down and told me after the fact). He mentioned this because he saw I had obviously requested a vege meal on that flight but said that my booking reference for the current QF23 wasn't showing a vege meal request. He said that although I hadn't requested it on that flight he would make sure that I would be looked after.

I told him it wasn't a problem and that I was happy just to pick around what was served. Later in the flight the CSM came to do the greeting and also mentioned this. I had initially been confused as to which "recent flight" it had been but he then clarified that it was on my JASA to Townsville in November last year (there had been plenty of flights since then). I was worried that I had been labeled as a problem passenger but he assured me it was all good. When the meal service came around again the cabin crew said that they could put something together for me again for which I thanked them, but told them not worry about it as I had had a good breakfast in the FLounge.

The CSM and cabin crew were great. For your reference Red Roo it was QF23 on 28/04/2014.

I'd say it is provided by QF for the CSMs, as they all seem to have the iPad.

Im not so sure. I have a whole page full of past and future bookings, domestic and international and its 50/50 whether I get a meet and greet. Just flew back from Singapore, even though the plane was only a third full no meet and greet. Not that I really care, but have to say it does make your flight when the CSM comes and offers you noise cancelling headsets.

Sounds similar to what EK already use (Microsoft Surface iirc) and AA have a Galaxy Note.

Yes they have been using this for a while. I think some CSM will go without iPad if they can recall where the people they need to greet are sitting. But if there are many they might just take it with them to remind themselves. Anyhow had a really poor experience with it last year on QF24 which infuriated me, not getting recognition or express immigration pass when the pax sitting in the 2 rows in front of me were also SG but had their butt kissed and knobs polished by the CSM while they just walked past me.

On a flight to London I was bored and looked at the "behind the scenes" documentary on Qantas on the in flight entertainment, this included some footage of the iPad application.

The Qantas Red app for customer service debuted at the start of last year, a very good idea.

I haven't seen these used on the KTA-PER_KTA flights. I get no recognition apart from the couple of CSM's who recognise me as a regular.

The iPad works both ways. I have asked to be called by my first name which they have noted on the iPad.

Do you just ask the CSM to input that sort of request on his/her tablet thing on the flight, and presumably it then goes into your profile? Or is it copied from one's QFF profile on line (been ages since I went there).

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

It was used on my recent SYD-HKG, HKG-SYD flights, felt very welcomed as a WP on-board and got noise cancelling headsets. I think its a great idea, and certainly better than seeing the staff fumbling through reems of paper trying to locate WP's on the manifest.
I noticed it gave CSM's/CSS's more time to chat with passengers as they could quickly identify pax.

Thumbs up from me.

Earlier this year I had a trans-con flight, most of which I spent sleeping. I'm fairly certain it was an international crew. As I was disembarking the CSM was doing the usual fare well at the front door and as he saw me he said "Your birthday tomorrow. Happy birthday". It nearly knocked me over and I've got to be honest it made me feel just a little special.

No interactions since.
