Just happened upon this marine traffic summary for the Drake and the Le Maire Peninsula….
Busy as…. wilderness not…when will the wildlife unionise and seek a cut of the profits ?

Wow! This map really brings to life how many ships are moving around the Antarctic now. No wonder there are environmental concerns. I did hear talk of reducing and/or banning the quantity and types of ships heading that way.

Oasis of the Seas in Adelaide today. Going to be a warm sunny one. Tourism Minister is refusing to talk of Covid issues. Last week it was the Super Car event. And Test match here currently. But a change in Govt since Covid means that they are turning their backs on the issues. SA is like everyone else experiencing a hike in cases but suspect most aren't reporting. I know of more now with Covid than previously but RSV also widespread and more problematic. Of course SA Health not happy. But enjoying life as usual myself.

Happy to report just returned to Brisbane from an 8 night cruise on Carnival Luminosa. Good degree of compliance to mask wearing directives throughout the trip. No obvious outbreaks of Covid. In fact there were far more people coughing and sniffling on my flight home from TSV 10 days ago than by anything experienced on the cruise.

No. Do you recommend it?

I watched it all the way through but at a busier time of year maybe I wouldn't have 😂

It's not about a shipwreck. I would describe it as horror with comedic aspects, set on board a cruise ship. What engaged me about it was so many of the details about a cruise ship were right, like uniforms, venues and activities. And I can well imagine many of the events are not too far from the truth of crew life onboard (not all, but many).

Funny that there is no mention that Viking simply decided not to have the hull cleaned before reaching NZ, although many other ships had it done. It was a well known (and long known) condition of docking or going through the Sounds.

Has anyone ever done one of those really long, 100+ days cruises?

I'm just back from 4 days staying at Circular Quay, which was excellent for cruise ship watching, and it seems Silver Shadow sails from Sydney today for a 140 day journey to Fort Lauderdale. It can also be booked in smaller chunks. But it got me wondering what it would be like getting on a ship in early January and arriving at the final destination on 27 May 😲🤔.

Viking has just started its World Cruise today, 138 days. From LA and ends in UK. I'm following this blog of someone who just embarked in Florida. It's their first cruise! She has some interesting comments and her blogs are fabulous. And they've just discovered her hubby gets seasick and she gets carsick. 😳 I'm just green with envy.
