Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

We have worked closely with local authorities to ensure that immediate medical attention is provided should the need arise

Weasel words really...means.. we will dump you at the nearest port where the local "medical system" will take care of you …
Some US folks have, in the past, paid insurance for high level medevac facilities, private jet home to 6* care.. but I very much
doubt this facility is what SS are offering

Immunizations are not 100% effective so there is a possibility of contracting COVID whilst traveling/ cruising.

Yes, but because the viral load of a fully-vaccinated passenger will be comparatively low, they will not be highly contagious and the level of the infection passed to another person will likewise be low.

I'm waiting for Viking to make a decision on their Egypt River cruises that start again in August given that CDC has stated recently that Egypt is a total no go zone now. Full payment for a 28 trip is due in a few weeks. Of course we can't go, but will be interesting to see the dialogue that Viking tries out.

Pushka, we had a Viking Egypt cruise cancelled last year and had no issues what so ever with getting a full refund.

Biggest issue with Kimberley cruises is that they are in WA.
Did someone say lockdown?
For me, that’s the good news. At least I know I can go on a Kimberley cruise. It was South Australia that locked Western Australians out last month, myself included.

Royal Carribean given permission to do test cruises from Florida.

Hmmm. Cunard is still planning on their Aussie cruises by the looks of it for November 2021 onwards. For their UK cruises this year you have to wear masks at all times while indoors, except while eating and drinking. Not sure what to make of that given most of the time seems to be either eating or drinking!

My Antarctica cruise originally booked for Jan 2021, rescheduled for Dec 2021 has been cancelled. Our deposit has been changed into future cruise credit, if not used by Dec 2024 we can apply for a refund.

Groan.

A Mediterrean cruise ship has been barred from making a routine stop at Malta’s Valletta cruise port Monday after two passengers tested positive for Covid-19.

MSC Cruises removed the pair from the ship on Tuesday during a stopover in Siracusa, on the island of Sicily, before continuing on its normal scheduled route.

MSC Cruises does not require passengers to receive a Covid-19 vaccination before travelling with the company.
